Job Description

Job Title:
Lead Instrumentation Engineer We are seeking an experienced Lead Instrumentation Engineer to support and lead turnkey automation and process instrumentation projects. This role partners closely with customers, internal automation teams, and project stakeholders to deliver complete instrumentation solutions—from front-end design through commissioning and startup. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in process instrumentation, hands-on project leadership experience, and the ability to interface confidently with clients. Responsibilities Serve as Lead Instrumentation Engineer on client projects, owning instrumentation scope and technical execution. Gather and analyze process and technical data to develop complete instrumentation design packages, including instrument lists and I/O lists, instrument specifications and data sheets, procurement submittals, and vendor coordination. Prepare operation & maintenance documentation, training materials, and related design documentation. Specify, procure, and calibrate process instruments, including flow, level, temperature, pressure, and analytical instruments. Act as the primary technical interface with customers on instrumentation-related topics. Coordinate and communicate effectively with project teams, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines. Perform basic field commissioning and startup activities related to instrumentation and process control systems. Direct, review, and check the work of designers and engineers to ensure quality and adherence to standards. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science in a related engineering field (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics preferred). 3+ years of experience specifying, procuring, and calibrating process instrumentation. Solid knowledge of all facets of process instrumentation, including working with PLC programs and operator interface (HMI) software. Ability to read and develop P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and panel layout drawings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Additional Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of relevant instrumentation engineering experience. Familiarity with Autodesk CAD software. PLC configuration experience. Work Environment The work environment involves collaboration with internal and external teams, and the use of advanced technologies and equipment related to instrumentation. The role requires effective communication and coordination across disciplines to ensure project success. Dress code and specific working conditions are typical for engineering environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Aurora, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $62.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
