Position Overview Dex Marine is seeking part-time Marine Electrical & Electronics Technicians to support our growing service business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a technical background who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, electrical systems, electronics, boats, and working in a variety of yacht environments. The position is part-time with a variable, as-needed schedule based on customer demand. No minimum number of weekly hours is guaranteed. As the business grows, there may be opportunities for increased hours and responsibilities. Technicians will work at marinas, docks, boatyards, private docks, and other vessel locations throughout the greater Charleston area. Qualifications Candidates must meet at least one of the following: Technical degree, associate degree, bachelor's degree, certificate, or similar education in electrical engineering, electronics, electrical technology, marine technology, mechatronics, industrial technology, or a related technical field; Currently working toward a related technical degree or certification; or At least 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in marine electrical, marine electronics, automotive electrical, industrial electrical, electronics installation/service, controls, low-voltage systems, or a closely related technical field. Marine industry experience is preferred but is not required for a technically strong candidate who is capable of learning quickly. Required Technical Skills & Aptitude Candidates should have a working knowledge of, or demonstrated aptitude for: Basic DC and AC electrical theory Voltage, current, resistance, continuity, and electrical load concepts Proper use of digital multimeters and electrical test equipment Reading wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and installation instructions Identifying circuits, conductors, terminals, fuses, breakers, relays, switches, and electrical components Troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems methodically Wire stripping, crimping, terminating, heat shrinking, and routing conductors Understanding proper electrical connections and the importance of corrosion prevention in marine environments Battery systems, charging systems, circuit protection, and power distribution concepts Installing and servicing electronic equipment and associated wiring Using hand tools safely and professionally Maintaining organized work areas and protecting customer vessels while work is performed Documenting findings, repairs, installed equipment, and work completed Technicians must be comfortable learning and following marine-industry standards and Dex Marine installation practices. Typical Work Depending on experience and training, technicians may assist with or perform: Marine electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics Battery and battery-bank testing Charging-system troubleshooting Alternators, battery chargers, DC-DC chargers, and inverter/charger systems AC and DC electrical distribution Circuit protection and wiring repairs Electrical panel work Bilge pumps, float switches, and associated circuits Lighting and accessory circuits Marine electronics installation and troubleshooting GPS, chartplotters, multifunction displays, radar, sonar, VHF, AIS, antennas, and related equipment

Working Environment Marine service work is physically demanding and takes place in a wide variety of environments.

Technicians must be comfortable:

Working aboard yachts and recreational vessels of varying sizes Walking and working on docks, floating docks, gangways, and marina facilities Boarding and exiting vessels safely Working in engine rooms, machinery spaces, cabins, lockers, bilges, and other confined areas Working while kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, or lying in restricted spaces Climbing ladders and steps Working in hot and humid conditions common to Charleston-area boats and engine spaces Working outdoors in varying weather conditions Working around batteries, electrical equipment, engines, machinery, fuel systems, and other marine equipment Carrying tools, equipment, wire, batteries, and installation materials Safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds Maintaining balance while working aboard vessels and on docks Safety and protection of the customer's vessel are priorities at all times. Transportation & Tools Technicians must have: Reliable personal transportation The ability to travel independently to marinas, boatyards, private docks, and customer locations throughout the Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Isle of Palms, and surrounding Charleston-area marine community A valid driver's license A basic set of professional technician hand tools appropriate for electrical and electronics work Dex Marine provides specialized marine electrical and electronics tools, specialty test equipment, and other company-owned equipment required for the work. Schedule This is a part-time, hourly, nonexempt position with a variable schedule based on customer workload. Hours may vary significantly from week to week No minimum weekly hours are guaranteed Employees are not required to remain on standby when they are not scheduled Work is scheduled as customer projects become available Some flexibility during normal weekday business hours is highly desirable Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be available depending on customer needs This structure can be particularly well suited for technical students, experienced technicians seeking supplemental work, semi-retired technical professionals, or individuals interested in building experience in the marine industry.
