The Laser Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing the laser safety program for the organization, maintain all required regulatory equipment registrations, ensure that only those credentialed to operate the laser are doing so, and that Laser Safety in the Operating Room and Procedure Areas is being followed. This will be a shared duty of the Laser Safety Officer, laser Operators, and the Biomedical Technician of the hospital.POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current Licensure in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse (RN). CurrentBLS/ACLS/PALS
certifications are preferred. Excellent customer service skills. Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Bilingual- English/Spanish preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of professional nursing experience with proven progressive management experience and abilities preferably in procedural areas. Demonstrates knowledge of operations and healthcare management; assures compliance with established Joint Commission Standards and state and federal laws and regulations. Demonstrates the ability to review and/or revise the Hospital's Nursing Department Policy and Procedures and facilitates review on Interdisciplinary Policy and Procedures.Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes the facility's mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices. Enforce safety procedures that include availability and placement of appropriate warning signs and availability and use of appropriate wavelength specific eye protection for all appropriate personnel and patients. Determination of nominal hazard zone by referencing ASNSI Z136.1 and ANSI Z136.3, as well as the safety information supplied by the laser manufacturer. Maintain adequate regulations for the control of laser hazards. Ensure that the hospital staff is aware of the infection prevention and control procedures disaster and fire plans. Provide for issuance of appropriate instruction on the laser hazards and their control to all personnel who may work with lasers. Review the planned installation or modification of laser equipment relative to laser hazards and their control, approving of the installation of modification only if he/she is satisfied that laser hazard controls are adequate. On notification of a real or suspected accident resulting from laser operation, the LSO will investigate said accident and initiate appropriate action. Survey all areas using laser equipment as frequently as the LSO considers necessary. The LSO will approve a laser system for operation only if he/she is satisfied that laser hazard control is adequate. Maintain the necessary records required by applicable governmental regulations. Ensure that service and preventative maintenance are performed in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines on a regular basis by qualified personnel who have knowledge of laser systems. The LSO has the authority to suspend, restrict, or terminate the operation of a laser system if he/she deems that laser hazard controls are inadequate. Represent nursing services at meetings as deemed necessary; collaborates and participates with department heads in designing and providing quality patient care and services. Performs clinical duties as needed to meet the needs of the department, including assisting with patient care as assigned Demonstrates excellent customer service to all DHR customers.
