This is a hands-on field position for a highly experienced, well-rounded fiber technician who is confident handling all aspects of fiber optic construction and network maintenance. We are looking for a seasoned technician who can independently install, prep, splice, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and restore fiber optic networks in both ISP and OSP environments . The ideal candidate has extensive field experience and takes ownership of the quality and completion of their work. This individual should be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex fiber issues, reading construction documentation, and making sound decisions in the field while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity. This position supports commercial, utility, and telecommunications projects throughout Texas. Travel within the state may be required depending on project needs. Most work is performed outdoors, and candidates must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends during emergency restoration or special projects. Responsibilities Install, prep, splice, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic cabling in both ISP and OSP environments. Perform fusion splicing on both single fiber and ribbon fiber cables. Perform complex fiber troubleshooting, fault isolation, testing, and restoration. Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, utility maps, fiber schematics, and network documentation. Perform OTDR, power meter, fiber identification, continuity, and loss testing to verify network performance and identify faults. Analyze test results and identify potential issues with fiber routes, splices, connectors, and network components. Install and build fiber closures, splice cases, terminals, splitters, panels, and other fiber distribution equipment. Perform fiber testing and troubleshooting during new construction, maintenance, cutovers, and emergency restoration. Assist with aerial and underground fiber construction activities as required. Operate and maintain fusion splicers, OTDRs, OFIs, ribbonizers, cleavers, power meters, and other specialized fiber equipment. Identify and resolve fiber issues with minimal supervision while maintaining project schedules and quality standards. Complete daily production reports, test results, redlines, splice documentation, and project closeout information accurately and timely. Maintain accurate records of fiber counts, splice locations, test results, and completed work. Inspect completed work to ensure installations meet company, customer, utility, and industry standards. Communicate effectively with crew leaders, project managers, customers, inspectors, and other team members regarding project status, issues, and field conditions. Assist less-experienced technicians with technical questions, troubleshooting, and proper fiber construction practices when needed. Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and other assigned equipment in safe operating condition. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, customer requirements, and industry best practices. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the project.
