This position will serve as the technical resource for Tor-Rey's Warranty Department, supporting equipment diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, parts identification, technician coordination, and product knowledge development. The Warranty Technician will work closely with Warranty Associates to determine the appropriate technical next step for warranty claims, allowing associates to stay focused on RMA management, documentation, customer communication, and claim progression. The ideal candidate has practical experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, commercial food equipment, or small appliance systems and can clearly explain technical information to customers, service technicians, and nontechnical team members. This is an on-site, part-time position and is well suited for an experienced technician seeking consistent supplemental hours without a full-time schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Diagnose equipment issues based on customer descriptions, photographs, videos, technician reports, error symptoms, and available product information. Provide troubleshooting assistance by phone, video call, email, or other approved communication methods. Determine whether reported issues are likely related to installation, operation, maintenance, normal wear, component failure, or another mechanical or electrical issue. Identify appropriate diagnostic steps before recommending replacement parts or outside service. Help Warranty Associates determine when additional technical information is needed before an RMA can progress. Provide clear technical recommendations without making commitments outside Tor-Rey's established warranty policies. In-House Equipment Repair Inspect and repair equipment returned to Tor-Rey when appropriate. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, or component-related failures. Replace or repair defective parts when within the scope of the position. Test repaired equipment to confirm proper operation before returning equipment to inventory, the customer, or another designated location. Document repairs performed, parts used, findings, and the equipment's final condition. Identify equipment that cannot reasonably be repaired in-house and recommend the appropriate next step. Parts Identification & Technical Support Identify replacement parts using model numbers, serial numbers, diagrams, manuals, physical equipment, and available product information. Assist Warranty Associates with determining which parts may be required for customer repairs. Verify part compatibility before shipping replacement components whenever possible. Support organization and identification of warranty-related parts. Alert management to recurring component failures, difficult-to-source parts, or potential product quality concerns. External Technician Support Provide technical guidance to third-party service technicians working on Tor-Rey equipment. Review technician diagnostic findings, service notes, photographs, and repair recommendations. Communicate directly with technicians when clarification or additional testing is required. Help determine whether a technician's recommended repair is technically appropriate before authorizing additional warranty expenses. Support difficult service cases where geographic location, equipment complexity, or limited technician availability creates challenges. Document relevant technical communications for inclusion in the RMA record. Warranty Technical Escalation Serve as the primary technical escalation resource for Warranty Associates. Review complex or unresolved RMAs requiring technical interpretation. Provide clear next-step recommendations so claims do not stall unnecessarily. Prioritize technical reviews that are delaying customer service, technician dispatch, parts shipment, or RMA closure. Communicate promptly when you need additional information from the customer, dealer, or service technician. Warranty Team Training Train Warranty Associates on Tor-Rey equipment, components, and common technical issues.
Provide hands-on instruction covering:
equipment functionality major component identification common failure points replacement parts basic diagnostic questions appropriate troubleshooting steps when an issue should be escalated for technical review Help the team resolve basic troubleshooting issues independently before escalating them. Support the continued development of Tor-Rey's Equipment Troubleshooting Reference and related technical training materials. RMA Support Expectations The Warranty Technician supports the technical portion of the warranty process but does not replace the Warranty Associate's ownership of the RMA .
Warranty Associates remain responsible for:
opening and maintaining RMA records customer and dealer communication collecting required documentation scheduling and following up with technicians tracking claim timelines maintaining required paperwork documenting customer satisfaction progressing and closing RMAs The Warranty Technician is responsible for providing the technical information necessary for those processes to continue efficiently. Documentation Expectations All technical activity must be documented clearly enough that another team member can understand: the reported problem troubleshooting performed findings parts recommended or replaced technician recommendations additional testing requested repair performed current status next technical action Technical work should not remain undocumented or dependent upon verbal knowledge. Required Qualifications Demonstrated mechanical and technical troubleshooting ability. Experience diagnosing or repairing equipment, appliances, HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, electrical components, commercial kitchen equipment, or comparable systems. Ability to identify equipment components and understand how individual parts affect overall equipment operation. Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, parts lists, or similar reference materials. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic reasoning skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical individuals. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple technical requests and prioritize issues based on urgency and customer impact. Dependable attendance and ability to work independently. Preferred Qualifications Commercial refrigeration experience. HVAC experience. Commercial food equipment repair experience. Small appliance or electromechanical repair experience. Electrical troubleshooting experience. Experience working with meat grinders, slicers, scales, refrigeration units, or similar commercial equipment. Experience communicating with field service technicians. Previous warranty, technical support, field service, or repair-center experience. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus. Physical Requirements This position may require the employee to: stand, bend, kneel, reach, and move around equipment during inspection or repair; use standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment; safely handle equipment components and replacement parts; lift or assist with moving equipment or parts consistent with company safety procedures; and work periodically within Tor-Rey's warehouse environment. Because this position supports active warranty cases and technical escalations, reliability and predictable scheduling are important. Success in This Role Success will be measured by the technician's ability to: provide timely technical direction on open RMAs; reduce delays caused by unresolved technical questions; accurately diagnose common equipment problems; improve the quality of information provided to outside technicians; reduce unnecessary service calls and parts shipments when remote troubleshooting can resolve an issue; complete assigned in-house repairs accurately; improve Warranty Associate product knowledge; maintain complete technical documentation; and help move warranty claims toward resolution rather than allowing technical questions to become bottlenecks.
