Job Description

Overview The Data Center Fiber Technician I is responsible for assisting with the installation, termination, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling systems in mission-critical data center environments. This role performs work under the direction of senior technicians and project leads while maintaining compliance with BICSI standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements. Responsibilities Install and route single-mode and multimode fiber optic cabling. Assist with fiber terminations and fusion splicing. Pull, dress, secure, and label fiber optic cables. Install patch panels, fiber enclosures, cassettes, and cable management systems. Perform basic fiber testing using optical power meters, visual fault locators (VFL), and continuity testers. Assist senior technicians with OTDR testing and troubleshooting. Read and interpret basic construction drawings and cable schedules. Maintain proper bend radius and cable routing standards. Complete labeling and documentation in accordance with project requirements. Follow all customer, BICSI, OSHA, and site safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Assist with inventory management and material staging. Qualifications BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) Certification 1-3 years of structured cabling or fiber optic installation experience. Basic knowledge of fiber optic installation practices. Ability to identify fiber color codes. Experience using hand tools and basic fiber installation equipment. Ability to read basic blueprints and cable schedules. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Qualifications:
BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) Certification 1-3 years of structured cabling or fiber optic installation experience. Basic knowledge of fiber optic installation practices. Ability to identify fiber color codes. Experience using hand tools and basic fiber installation equipment. Ability to read basic blueprints and cable schedules. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
