Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Technician / Utility Fiber Splicer to join our growing Utility Telecommunications Division. This position is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoring fiber optic cable systems, including aerial, underground, substation, and Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fiber networks supporting electric utility customers throughout the South Central United States. The ideal candidate is a safety-focused professional who can work independently or as part of a team while delivering high-quality workmanship and exceptional customer service. This role requires travel throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and surrounding states, with overnight stays and extended project assignments as needed. Key Responsibilities Perform fusion splicing of single-mode outside plant (OSP) fiber optic cable. Perform OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) fiber splicing on electric transmission and distribution systems. Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cable in substations, communication shelters, cabinets, and splice closures. Perform OTDR, bi-directional OTDR, power meter, insertion loss, continuity, and acceptance testing. Read and interpret splice matrices, utility construction prints, and cable records. Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and identify cable faults. Safely operate bucket trucks and tow fiber optic splice trailers. Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintain company vehicles, tools, and testing equipment. Complete daily reports, splice documentation, test results, and as-built records. Work safely around energized utility facilities while following all company and customer safety requirements. Respond to scheduled outages and emergency restoration work as required. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of outside plant (OSP) fiber optic splicing experience . Proven experience splicing OPGW fiber optic cable . Ability to independently perform fiber testing, troubleshooting, and restoration. Experience using fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and fiber testing equipment. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be insurable under the company's vehicle insurance policy. Ability to pass pre-employment, random, and customer-required drug and alcohol screenings. Ability to safely operate bucket trucks and tow a splice trailer. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Willingness to travel extensively and work overtime, weekends, overnight assignments, and emergency callouts as needed. $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
