Co-Diagnostics, Inc. (Co-Dx) is a Salt Lake City molecular diagnostics company committed to developing innovative diagnostic solutions for global health challenges, including at-home and point-of-care PCR test platforms designed to detect viruses and other pathogens. Engineering Technician II employees work within project teams under the leadership of the Operations Manager. They collaborate closely with R&D and manufacturing engineers to independently troubleshoot, build, prototype, test, repair, modify, and maintain R&D products and a diverse range of mechatronic manufacturing and laboratory equipment. This role requires strong hands-on troubleshooting ability, sound technical judgment, and the adaptability to support projects ranging from basic engineering fixtures to complex PLC-controlled and full-scale process equipment. Engineering Technicians are also responsible for providing hands-on technical support across R&D, engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, and facilities operations. They may assist with equipment setup, maintenance coordination, workspace readiness, facility repairs or improvements, and communication with appropriate internal teams or vendors to help keep work areas safe, functional, and ready for use. The successful candidate must be comfortable transitioning between complex troubleshooting, equipment and fixture builds, maintenance and repairs, prototype support, facilities work, and other technical projects as business priorities change. 1. Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Collaborate with engineers on the design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, modification, and fixture builds of custom mechatronic engineering development equipment. Independently troubleshoot complex electromechanical, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and PLC-controlled equipment by systematically diagnosing failures and determining appropriate corrective actions. Build, install, modify, calibrate, commission, repair, and maintain custom fixtures, manufacturing equipment, laboratory equipment, and other engineering systems in a safe and timely manner. Build, maintain, modify, and troubleshoot PLC- and HMI-controlled equipment, primarily utilizing Allen-Bradley platforms. Troubleshoot control systems and associated components, including PLCs, HMIs, I/O devices, sensors, actuators, motors, drives, communication systems, and electrical components. Support the build and troubleshooting of basic embedded and engineering fixture platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and similar systems as required. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on required equipment for multiple departments, ensuring maintenance activities remain up to date. Troubleshoot printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), electrical assemblies, cable harnesses, sensors, and related components. Perform verification and validation testing for prototypes and other test equipment, including installation qualification and operational qualification (IQ/OQ) activities as assigned. Identify recurring equipment issues, investigate root causes, and recommend or implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, and performance. Follow appropriate documentation practices, including test reports, technical communications, change notices, maintenance logs, and troubleshooting records. Navigate SolidWorks and other CAD or electrical documentation tools effectively to support builds, troubleshooting, and modifications. Independently assess assigned equipment and technical issues, determine an appropriate troubleshooting approach, and execute repairs, modifications, or escalations with minimal supervision. Train and coach new hires and Engineering Technicians on processes, documentation, safety, equipment, troubleshooting methods, and standards. Support facilities-related tasks under the direction of the Engineering Technician Lead or Operations Manager, including equipment setup, workspace organization, minor repairs, and coordination of facility needs. Communicate equipment, facility, maintenance, supply, or workspace concerns to the Engineering Technician Lead or Operations Manager in a timely manner. Maintain regular job-site attendance. 2. Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering Technology preferred, or relevant hands-on experience building, troubleshooting, servicing, or maintaining electromechanical, automated, laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial equipment. 3. Experience 4+ years of relevant experience troubleshooting, building, maintaining, modifying, or servicing electromechanical, automated, laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial equipment. Equivalent demonstrated experience may be considered. (Required) Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-controlled equipment, preferably Allen-Bradley platforms. Experience building or modifying PLC/HMI-controlled equipment is preferred. 4. Skills Strong ability to systematically troubleshoot unfamiliar and complex equipment using schematics, documentation, PLC/HMI interfaces, test equipment, and sound technical judgment. Proficiency in reading and troubleshooting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical documentation. Ability to navigate and troubleshoot equipment control logic and software, including ladder logic and embedded or scripting environments used in engineering fixtures and equipment. Proficiency in soldering, assembling cable harnesses, and troubleshooting circuit boards and electrical assemblies. Working knowledge of PLC/HMI systems, sensors, actuators, motors, drives, I/O, and associated control components; Allen-Bradley experience strongly preferred. Ability to use shop equipment, including laser cutters, lathes, mills, hand tools, and related equipment. Proficiency in using laboratory and electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and related equipment. Ability to navigate CAD and electrical software, including SolidWorks, SkyCAD, and related tools. Experience with Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, C/C++, or similar embedded or scripting environments is preferred, but not required. Working Conditions May be required to wear PPE, such as a lab coat, safety glasses and/or face shields, safety gloves, and other safety equipment as needed. May work a variety of shifts, including a traditional workday (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, or other shifts as assigned. Remote work is not available for this role. 5. Physical Requirements This job requires long periods of sitting, standing, and walking. The role may require stooping, bending, and twisting. Based on the nature of the medical devices being manufactured, ambient air temperature and/or humidity levels may fluctuate. Must be able to lift 10-50 pounds on a regular basis.
