Engineering Technician - Fiber Optic Optical Cable Corporation (OCC) is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Test Lab team in Roanoke, VA.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with some schedule flexibility required. Overtime may be available.
Pay:
$18.45-$33.12 per hour Position Summary The Engineering Technician performs environmental and mechanical testing of optical cables, cable assemblies, and components. This position provides testing, inspection, troubleshooting, data analysis, and reporting support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance. Key Responsibilities Conduct environmental and mechanical testing of cables and assemblies in accordance with industry, corporate, and military standards and procedures. Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret test data. Prepare clear and accurate computer-based test reports. Troubleshoot test setups and equipment failures and assist with root cause analysis. Perform inspections, testing, and analysis related to customer complaints, returns, and quality investigations. Support Production with inspections, testing, analysis, and cable annealing processes. Communicate test requirements, findings, and results with internal departments. Maintain confidentiality of OCC and customer-proprietary information. Perform testing in accordance with applicable standards, specifications, and procedures. Travel to outside test facilities or other OCC locations may occasionally be required. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field and/or 1-3 years of relevant hands-on experience. Experience in fiber optics, electro-optics, instrumentation, measurements, or a related field. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, including formulas, tables, and formatting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good mathematical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, complete work. Ability to read, understand, and perform testing according to technical standards and procedures. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Willingness to work occasional overtime or weekend hours as needed. Physical & Working Requirements This position involves both standing and sitting and requires the ability to handle and manipulate optical fibers and testing equipment. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for detailed inspection, reading, and computer work are required. Color vision and hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers are also required. Work Authorization Requirement This position involves work contracted by the U.S. government and/or other federal agencies. Candidates must be able to provide valid documentation confirming U.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status. Additional Compensation Information:
The posted pay range reflects the established hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range.
