Full Job Description Shop Foreman Department:
Service Reports To:
General Manager Overview The Shop Foreman optimizes production by directing, coordinating, and supervising the daily activities of technicians and shop workflow. Ensures technicians are staying on task, procedures are followed and paperwork is done correctly Benefits Health Insurance 401(k) Retirement Plan Paid Time Off (PTO) Competitive Wages Flexible Scheduling Key Responsibilities Oversee and optimize shop operations by assigning work based on technician skillsets, coordinating with Service Advisors, adjusting in real time to meet demand, monitoring progress, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining workflow efficiency. Provide leadership and mentorship by giving clear direction, assisting with complex tasks, ensuring proper documentation, identifying additional work opportunities, and promoting continuous improvement. Foster effective communication with Service Advisors, customers, and internal teams to ensure timely updates, resolve issues, address parts concerns, and participate in goal-alignment meetings. Drive efficiency through planning by leading daily meetings, allocating resources, preparing shift handovers, overseeing tool readiness, monitoring rework and warranty concerns, and suggesting service or shop enhancements. Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture by encouraging diverse perspectives, supporting professional growth, and aligning team efforts with broader business goals. Apply product and technical expertise to diagnose, service, and repair International Truck and IC Bus products using correct tools, documentation, and techniques. Plan and manage resources —human, physical, informational, and financial—to support productivity and organizational objectives. Maintain safety and cleanliness standards to ensure a safe, compliant, and well-organized work environment. Leverage software and digital tools to document work, access technical information, and support efficient service operations. General Knowledge and Skills You Will Need Communicate openly and respectfully with team members, leadership, and customers to foster dialogue, active listening, and collaboration for clarity and alignment. Provide outstanding service to internal and external clients by maintaining communication, anticipating needs, and offering expert guidance to drive satisfaction. Uphold accountability by fostering transparency, setting clear expectations, and implementing systems that support consistent performance. Motivate and energize teams by fostering resilience, confidence, and alignment with shared goals in a success-driven environment. Plan and allocate resources effectively to achieve organizational goals on time and with efficiency. Identify and resolve issues efficiently, escalating complex problems when needed for timely solutions. Desired Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology preferred. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain. 5 years of related experience in a heavy-duty shop / service operation Experience managing technicians Ability to work effectively within a team environment knowledge of mechanical repair (medium- and heavy-duty truck systems preferred) Understanding of engine repairs, tune-ups, diagnosing and testing Knowledge of electrical systems electrical/electronic diagnosing and testing Knowledge of cab, suspension, air brake, hydraulic brake, steering gear & springs, Clutch, transmission and differential and all other components / systems Active desire to develop professional skills and have an active role in career growth Must be able to lift 75lbs and carry weight up to a distance of 5 feet.
