Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Controls Engineer with 1-3 years of experience to join our continuous improvement team. This early-career role focuses on developing, testing, and implementing industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs) to improve manufacturing efficiency, safety, and productivity. Working under the guidance of the continuous improvement manager, you will gain hands-on experience in the entire project lifecycle—from conceptual design to on-site commissioning.
Job Summary:
Controls Engineer (1-3 Years Experience) We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Controls Engineer with 1-3 years of experience to join our continuous improvement team. This early-career role focuses on developing, testing, and implementing industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs) to improve manufacturing efficiency, safety, and productivity. Working under the guidance of the continuous improvement manager, you will gain hands-on experience in the entire project lifecycle—from conceptual design to on-site commissioning.
Key Responsibilities and Physical Duties:
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC (Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and HMI applications under senior engineer guidance. : Assist in designing electrical control panels, schematic diagrams, and network layouts using AutoCAD or similar CAD software. Participate in on-site field support, installation, and startup of automation equipment, conducting I/O checks and system testing. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues on the factory floor. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, bills of materials (BOM), operation manuals, and change logs. Work with mechanical, manufacturing, and maintenance teams to ensure project specifications and safety regulations (NFPA, NEC, ISA) are met. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field. 1-3 years of experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, or systems integration (internship/co-op experience counts). Foundational knowledge of PLC/HMI platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and VFDs. Ability to read and modify electrical schematics (AutoCAD or EPLAN). Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment. Desired Qualifications (Asset to Have) Experience with SCADA systems (Ignition, FactoryTalk View). Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet). Experience with motion control (servos, robots) or vision systems.
