Job Title:

Senior Electrical Engineer - Nuclear PowerJob Description This Senior-level electrical engineer role focuses on the design, analysis, and construction of power-related systems within a commercial nuclear power environment. The engineer applies advanced engineering principles, design criteria, and specialized software to develop safe, reliable, and compliant solutions. The position supports the full project lifecycle, from estimating and design development through construction specifications and field support, while providing technical leadership, oversight, and quality assurance for internal teams and external contractors. Responsibilities

+ Apply advanced electrical and controls engineering principles to design and construct power-related systems for a commercial nuclear power plant.

+ Use established engineering processes, design criteria, and discipline-specific software applications to develop robust and compliant design solutions.

+ Prepare and support project estimates, including developing design options and estimating material requirements for projects.

+ Develop and review construction specifications, design input documents, and technical reports to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with project objectives.

+ Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages.

+ Create and maintain a safe work environment by consistently putting safety first in all engineering and field support activities.

+ Understand and apply the processes used for planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance of nuclear plant systems.

+ Collaborate with various internal departments involved in design, construction, maintenance, operations, and licensing to ensure integrated and coordinated solutions.

+ Apply knowledge of industry design standards and nuclear plant design practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

+ Support the development and continuous improvement of design standards and criteria for plant systems and equipment.

+ Assist construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations by providing technical support, troubleshooting guidance, and engineering evaluations.

+ Transmit complete construction packages and supporting specifications to field teams and contractors in a timely and organized manner.

+ Evaluate engineering changes from an operational perspective to ensure changes are practical, safe, and aligned with plant operating requirements.

+ Prepare or review engineering analyses, calculations, and design changes to verify technical adequacy and system performance.

+ Assess plant system interactions and performance using a strong systems engineering approach to maintain overall plant reliability.

+ Use strong technical writing and communication skills to document engineering decisions, prepare clear reports, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

+ Build and maintain effective working relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors to support project success and operational excellence.

+ Exercise sound judgment and discretion in making independent engineering decisions within established procedures and standards. Essential Skills + 10+ years of related engineering experience in power-related systems, including significant experience at the Senior level. + 5+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience.

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (accredited degree preferred).

+ Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering and controls engineering principles.

+ Experience in power generation with a strong focus on nuclear power applications.

+ Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, operations, engineering, or licensing processes.

+ Familiarity with nuclear plant systems, design processes, operations, or licensing within the commercial nuclear industry.

+ Experience preparing or reviewing engineering analyses, calculations, design changes, design input documents, or technical reports.

+ Strong systems engineering background with knowledge of plant system interactions and performance.

+ Advanced proficiency with discipline-specific engineering and design software applications.

+ Ability to evaluate engineering changes from an operational perspective, considering plant response and procedure use.

+ Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and stakeholder communication.

+ Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions based on established procedures and engineering judgment.

+ Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working in commercial nuclear plant operations, including system operation, troubleshooting, procedure use, and assessment of plant response.

+ Experience supporting Extended Power Uprate (EPU) or similar power uprate and major plant modification activities.

+ Experience providing technical guidance and oversight to contractors and cross-functional teams.

+ Ability to develop and refine design standards and criteria for nuclear plant systems.

+ Proven ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering personnel, and vendors.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in engineering deliverables.

+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Work Environment The role operates within a commercial nuclear power plant and associated engineering offices, working closely with operations, design, construction, maintenance, and licensing teams. The engineer regularly uses advanced engineering and design software, standard office tools, and plant-specific applications to develop and review technical documents, drawings, and calculations. Work typically follows standard business hours with the potential for additional time during critical project phases, outages, or major modifications. The position may involve periodic visits to plant areas, where adherence to site safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment is required. Collaboration, structured processes, and a strong safety and quality culture define the work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
