Job Description
Job Description Insight Global is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Propulsion Systems team for a cutting-edge aerospace and defense organization in Costa Mesa, CA. This individual will support the design, development, integration, and testing of electronic hardware used in propulsion systems, including motor drives, sensors, microcontrollers, power electronics, and embedded control hardware. The role is heavily focused on hardware design, with approximately 70% of the work centered around schematic capture, PCB layout, circuit design, analysis, and design improvements throughout the product lifecycle. This engineer will collaborate closely with systems, software, manufacturing, test, and quality engineering teams to support system integration, root cause investigations, environmental testing efforts, and product scalability initiatives. The ideal candidate has experience owning hardware designs from concept through testing, possesses a strong foundation in analog, digital, and power electronics, and enjoys working in a highly collaborative engineering environment. https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/. Skills and Requirements- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical hardware systems
- Experience owning hardware designs through the full product lifecycle, including architecture, schematic design, PCB layout, integration, testing, and design improvements
- Strong PCB design experience using Altium Designer or comparable tools such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or OrCAD
- Experience with analog, digital, and power electronics design
- Experience designing and troubleshooting motor drivers, power supplies, sensors, microcontrollers, DC-DC converters, high-side switches, and related circuitry
- Experience performing root cause investigations, failure analysis, and reviewing failure logs to identify hardware issues and corrective actions
- Experience conducting circuit simulations, component derating analysis, thermal analysis, and reliability assessments
- Experience supporting board bring-up activities, design verification testing (DVT), qualification testing, and environmental testing efforts
- Familiarity with communication protocols including CAN, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, DMMs, thermal chambers, and other laboratory test equipment
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with software, systems, manufacturing, test, and quality engineering teams
- Aerospace, defense, propulsion systems, or motor control experience
- Experience with flight hardware, engine electronics, or electromechanical systems operating in harsh environments
- Experience with system-level integration and hardware/software interface development
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up and transitioning products from development into production
- Experience with Monte Carlo analysis, advanced reliability engineering, or design-for-reliability methodologies
- MATLAB/Simulink experience for modeling, simulation, or controls analysis
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
