Manufacturing / Industrial AutomationJob SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and technically driven Automation / Electrical Engineer to join our team in Bloomingdale, IL. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong foundation in electrical engineering, industrial automation, control systems, and manufacturing technologies who enjoys designing, developing, troubleshooting, and improving automated production systems.

The Automation / Electrical Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing automation solutions that improve production efficiency, system reliability, quality, and overall manufacturing performance. The role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, production, and other cross-functional teams to integrate automation technologies into existing and new production processes.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working hands-on with electrical systems and automation equipment and should have strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities. Experience with SystemVerilog, FPGA technology, CAD, machine vision, Python scripting, and surface mount technology (SMT) will be highly valuable.

Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation System Design & DevelopmentDesign, develop, and implement automated systems for manufacturing and production processes.

Develop automation solutions designed to improve productivity, efficiency, reliability, and product quality.

Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to integrate automation into existing production workflows.

Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.

Support the development and implementation of new automation technologies and equipment.

Electrical Engineering & ControlsApply electrical engineering principles to the design, integration, and troubleshooting of automated equipment.

Analyze electrical systems and identify potential design or performance issues.

Debug and troubleshoot electrical systems, automation equipment, and production machinery.

Support the integration of electrical and electronic components into automated systems.

Assist with improving system reliability and overall equipment performance.

FPGA & System DevelopmentUtilize FPGA technology to enhance automation system performance, functionality, and reliability.

Develop and support hardware-related solutions using SystemVerilog and hardware description language applications.

Participate in system development, testing, debugging, and optimization.

Analyze technical issues involving hardware and automation systems and develop effective solutions.

Vision Inspection & Quality SystemsImplement and support machine vision/vision inspection systems for manufacturing applications.

Integrate vision systems into automated production processes to improve product quality and inspection accuracy.

Troubleshoot vision-related equipment and support system optimization.

Collaborate with quality and production teams to ensure automated inspection systems meet required standards.

Programming & Process AutomationDevelop Python scripts to automate repetitive engineering and manufacturing tasks.

Use programming and scripting capabilities to improve operational efficiency.

Support automation-related software development, testing, and troubleshooting.

Identify opportunities where software automation can improve production and engineering workflows.

CAD & Technical DocumentationCreate, update, and maintain electrical and automation documentation.

Develop and maintain CAD drawings, electrical documentation, system specifications, and process documentation.

Ensure engineering documentation accurately reflects current system configurations.

Maintain organized technical records for automation equipment and processes.

Troubleshooting & Continuous ImprovementDiagnose complex electrical, automation, and equipment issues.

Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Work with production and engineering teams to minimize equipment downtime.

Stay current with emerging automation technologies, engineering practices, and manufacturing trends.

Recommend improvements that increase system performance, reliability, and production efficiency.

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.

Experience or proficiency with SystemVerilog or similar hardware description language applications.

Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.

Familiarity with CAD software for electrical/automation system design and documentation.

Ability to work independently and manage technical assignments effectively.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, production, and other cross-functional teams.

Proactive attitude toward learning new technologies and engineering methodologies.

Preferred QualificationsExperience with surface mount technology (SMT) and electronics manufacturing.

Experience working with FPGA-based systems.

Experience with industrial automation and manufacturing equipment.

Experience implementing machine vision/vision inspection systems.

Experience with Python scripting for automation or engineering applications.

Experience developing or maintaining electrical CAD drawings.

Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

Familiarity with automated inspection and quality-control systems.
