Job Description

Kickstart your engineering career with hands-on experience in local government. The City of Geneva is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our Public Works Department this summer. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside an experienced engineering team on projects that directly impact the community's infrastructure, including streets, utilities, and capital improvement initiatives. The selected candidate will gain valuable exposure to municipal engineering operations while contributing to meaningful projects that support the safety, efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability of our community. The major emphasis will be on construction observation of paving and utility crews, keeping track of quantities for pay estimates, construction documentation, and ensuring compliance with ADA and accessibility standards. Enrollment in an engineering bachelor's degree program. A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering or a related field. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Work hours are flexible to accommodate a student's academic requirements, but the Public Works Department's office hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. There may be instances where the intern is required to report early or work later depending on assignments. The job will begin in May and continue through August.
