Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer will assist in maintaining and updating control system documentation, ensuring it is organized and accessible. The role involves supporting automation development and implementation while learning basic safety systems and standards. This position supports troubleshooting of basic issues within production control systems using predefined methods and guidelines. It is not heavily focused on programming or design but requires involvement in the setup of automation lines and interfacing with outside integrators. Responsibilities Develop and implement low to medium complexity control systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and best practices. Participate in system commissioning and ensure designs meet project requirements. Manage small-scale controls projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met (if experienced). Identify and resolve low-level issues within production and development control systems using predefined methods and guidelines. Create and refine controls system documentation, including diagrams, manuals, and reports to ensure alignment with best practices and compliance requirements. Implement simple automation and safety systems, ensuring safety standards are met and integrated into control systems. Assist in electrical design, PLC and robotic programming, and HMI development using tools like Ignition and Digital Factory. Contribute to the setup of automation lines and interact with universal and other types of robots. Essential Skills Strong knowledge in automation and robotics. Proficiency in PLC programming. BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics preferred. Strong GPA and internship experience highly preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications If no degree, 5+ years of documentation experience required. Experience with Rockwell or Allen Bradley PLCs is a plus. Working knowledge of mechatronics theory is advantageous. Work Environment The role is based at the Rock Cut Campus, Loves Park, IL. Working hours are typically from 8 am to 4 pm, with flexibility for an hour in either direction. The position involves a blend of HMI development (25%), electrical/system design (25-40%), and supporting functions (30-40%). Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Loves Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
