Job Description

Position Summary:
The Junior Electrical Engineer supports the design and development of electrical subsystems for the
MEVION S250
proton therapy platform. Working as part of a multidisciplinary and global engineering team, this role contributes to electrical design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvements throughout the product lifecycle. The position provides an opportunity to develop broad hands-on engineering experience while contributing to the performance, safety, and reliability of complex medical equipment. This role works closely with teams in both the United States and China and requires strong English communication skills and fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Essential Functions:
Supports the design and development of electrical subsystems, including power electronics, control circuitry, and high-voltage systems. Performs circuit analysis, schematic design, and review of PCB layouts with guidance from more experienced engineers as needed. Develops and executes electrical system test plans, troubleshooting activities, failure analysis, and design verification testing. Authors and maintains electrical design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, test documentation, and engineering change orders. Participates in design reviews and applies established electrical design methods, standards, and best practices. Collaborates with mechanical, software, physics, manufacturing, and service teams in the United States and China to support electrical subsystem integration and product improvements Troubleshoots and helps resolve electrical issues during development, manufacturing, commissioning, and field operation, including hands-on inspection, measurement, repair, and modification of electrical assemblies. Supports compliance of electrical designs with applicable safety and EMC requirements, including
IEC 60601
where applicable. Performs hands-on electrical assembly and lab work, including cable routing, cable and harness fabrication, soldering, connector assembly, equipment installation, and other prototype or test support activities as needed. Builds technical knowledge of Mevion products and develops increasing ownership of electrical design tasks and subsystems over time.
Required Education, Training, and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent working experience. Recent and soon-to-be graduates are encouraged to apply. Professional working proficiency in English and fluency in Mandarin are required for this position. Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including analog and digital circuits, power electronics, and electrical measurement techniques. Academic, internship, project, or professional experience with schematic capture, circuit design, PCB design, testing, or troubleshooting. Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and other common lab instrumentation. Ability and willingness to perform hands-on electrical work, including soldering, cable and harness assembly, connector termination, equipment installation, and troubleshooting. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, and engineering documentation. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new systems, tools, and technologies. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment and transition between design, test, troubleshooting, and hands-on support activities. Willingness to travel as needed (<25%) to support engineering, manufacturing, installation, or field activities.
Preferred Experience:
Internship, co-op, academic, or professional experience in product design and development. Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Altium or OrCAD and circuit simulation software. Exposure to power electronics, high-voltage systems, precision analog/digital circuitry, or AC/DC power distribution. Experience with RF systems. Hands-on experience building, modifying, testing, or troubleshooting electrical assemblies, prototypes, cables, or harnesses.
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
Regular standing and walking in lab, manufacturing, or engineering areas. Frequent use of hands to handle tools, instruments, cables, connectors, and small parts. Occasional lifting or moving of equipment and materials up to 35 lbs Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or reaching to access equipment, cable routing, and work areas. Ability to perform hands-on electrical assembly, installation, test, and troubleshooting activities. Combination of office, lab, manufacturing, and engineering environments. Work around equipment, tools, and test setups with moderate noise. Use of appropriate PPE as required by task and safety procedures. May need to work in the vicinity of high magnetic fields. Occasional travel (<25%) may be required to support engineering, manufacturing, installation, or field activities.
