Job Description
Talascend is currently seeking a Controls Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Pontiac, Michigan. Overview We are looking for a skilled controls engineer to join a facilities maintenance team, responsible for maintaining and optimizing building automation and control systems to ensure seamless operations. Responsibilities Respond to and resolve preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, and service calls daily. Manage building management systems (BMS), including Tridium platforms, in coordination with contractors. Create and maintain backups of all PLC, HMI, and VFD software parameters monthly. Provide emergency after-hours support for critical facility systems as needed. Prepare weekly and monthly EPA reports for the environmental team. Develop and update technical documentation and maintain facility drawings and logic repositories. Complete problem-solving documentation and safety reports monthly. Train and mentor maintenance technicians on systems and procedures. Assist with supervisory tasks, including permits, onboarding, and communication with client leadership. Coordinate weekend coverage for off-site incident command duties. Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Lead controls projects focusing on improvement and cost savings. Research and recommend alternative parts and equipment options. Manage and maintain operational laptops with required software and updates. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of experience with industrial control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and building automation systems. Proficiency with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms). Experience with building management systems, particularly Tridium. Strong understanding of VFDs, HMI systems, and SCADA applications. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings. Maximo CMMS experience required. Proficiency with Corrigo work order management system. Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification required. First Aid/CPR certification required. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred. EPA compliance training experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications Client Workday, Client Connect, and Cority experience preferred.
