Job Description

Company Overview Smart Vision Lights is a leading innovator in the field of advanced lighting solutions, dedicated to delivering high-quality products and exceptional support to clients worldwide. Our commitment to continuous improvement and customer-centric service positions us at the forefront of the specialty lighting industry. Purpose of the Role The Electrical Hardware Engineer is responsible for the design, layout, build, and validation of LED-based lighting fixtures for machine vision applications. As an individual contributor, you will own hardware design tasks from concept through production release, working closely with mechanical, software, optical, and test engineering peers to deliver reliable, manufacturable products. You will spend significant time at the bench — building, measuring, and troubleshooting — and will produce the schematics, layouts, and documentation that support our products throughout their lifecycle. Essential Job Responsibilities Hardware Design & Development Design analog and digital circuits for LED lighting products, including LED driver circuits, power conversion, signal conditioning, and control interfaces. Create schematics and PCB layouts using PCB CAD tools (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad), applying sound layout practices for signal integrity, thermal performance, and EMC. Make sound technical decisions with document selection rationale on component selection, circuit architecture, and testing approaches; evaluating requirements, lifecycle, availability, and cost. Apply thermal analysis and thermal management techniques appropriate to high-output LED systems. Develop BOMs, work instructions, and supporting manufacturing documentation for new and revised designs. Bench Work, Test & Validation Build, bring up, and debug prototype assemblies, including hands-on soldering, rework, and assembly of circuit boards; conduct design validation testing using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, DMMs, and thermal imaging tools. Perform failure analysis and root cause investigation on prototype, pilot, and field-returned units. Document test plans, test results, and validation reports in a clear, repeatable format.
Compliance & Quality:
Design to relevant safety and regulatory standards (UL, CE, FCC, etc.), incorporating EMC/EMI best practices into schematic and layout decisions. Contribute to compliance efforts by helping to assemble compliance packages, prepare units for certification testing, and address findings from compliance labs. Cross Functional Collaboration Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, optical, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure integrated product development. Provide clear status updates to project teams on assigned tasks, surface risks early and propose mitigations. Support customer-facing technical communication on a project-specific basis as needed, including answering technical questions and contributing to technical documentation visible to customers. Continuous Improvement Identify design reuse opportunities and improvements to tools, test fixtures, documentation, and processes based on hands-on experience. Stay current with developments in LED technology power electronics, and machine vision components relevant to SVL's product portfolio.
Qualifications Technical Skills:
Proficiency in hardware design and PCBA layout, with the ability to balance manufacturability, cost, and performance. (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad, OrCAD) Experience performing analytical circuit calculations — power dissipation, thermal derating, component stress, tolerance/worst-case analysis — using Mathcad, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools, with results documented in a reviewable format. Working knowledge of LED technology, LED drivers, switch mode power supplies and their integration into lighting systems (or comparable analog/power electronics experience); solid understanding of electronic components, and semiconductors. Experience with thermal analysis and thermal management in electronic assemblies. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications and MS Excel for data analysis and reporting Working knowledge of electrical test equipment and validation procedures, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and DMMs; design validation testing and quality systems. Skilled in circuit troubleshooting and failure analysis; circuit performance related to EMC/EMI and design practices that support compliance. Proficient at soldering and handling circuit assemblies, including fine-pitch and surface-mount rework; thermal analysis and thermal management in electronic assemblies
Communication & Work Style:
Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present technical information clearly to all levels or employees and customers. Self-directed with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and design optimization.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering with relevant additional experience will be considered. 3+ years of relevant electrical hardware design experience preferred with demonstrated experience contributing to electrical design projects from concept through production release.
