About the job Position Summary Septic Design Network - a MAP Engineering company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Engineer to join our growing team. This position plays a key role in preparing accurate and professional engineering plans for a diverse range of civil engineering projects, including land development, stormwater management, roadway improvements, septic designs, and NJDEP environmental permitting. Working closely with our Project Engineers, the Staff Engineer will assist in developing construction documents, technical exhibits, and permit plans while ensuring compliance with client preferences, local ordinances, and regulatory agency standards. Because we are a small engineering firm, this role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, develop new technical skills, and contribute throughout every stage of project development. Essential Responsibilities Assist Project Engineers with preparing and revising civil engineering drawings using CAD Software. Assist Project Engineers with producing construction plan sets, including: Existing Conditions Plans Demolition Plans Site Layout Plans Septic Design Plans Grading and Drainage Plans Stormwater Management Plans Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Plans Roadway and Profile Sheets Construction Details As-built Drawings Assist Project Engineers with earthwork calculations, profiles, and cross-sections. Assist Project Engineers with preparing permit exhibits and supporting graphics for NJDEP, county, and municipal applications. Incorporate engineering markups and maintain project drawing standards. Organize and maintain electronic project files. Perform quality control reviews to ensure drawings are complete, accurate, and consistent prior to submission to Project Engineer. Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines. Participate in field inspections to verify septic systems are installed as per the approved design plan. Test and analyze soil samples to determine permeability. Test and analyze suitable fill samples to verify compliance with state code requirements. Qualifications Required 4-8 years of work experience in Civil Engineering. Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering or a related field. Proficiency in CAD Software. Strong computer and organizational skills. Ability to interpret engineering markups and technical drawings. Excellent attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced office environment. Valid driver's license (company car provided for fieldwork) Preferred Actively seeking or already obtained Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification Experience preparing civil engineering plans for residential or commercial development projects. Familiarity with NJAC 7:9A & Septic System Design. Familiarity with New Jersey permitting requirements, including NJDEP regulations. Experience with grading, drainage, stormwater management, septic, and roadway design. Knowledge of HydroCAD, GIS, Bluebeam Revu, Google Workspace, & Asana. Work Environment Office-focused role with approximately 40% outdoor fieldwork. Ability to navigate uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs when needed. Standard Monday-Friday schedule/40 hours per week
