Automation Engineer & Controls - BMS/FMS Purple Drive Technologies - 3.8 Columbus, OH Job Details Full-time $90,000 - $100,000 a year 1 hour ago Qualifications Electrical engineering Revit Programmable logic controllers Bachelor's degree Problem-solving Productivity software Local building codes Full Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of Facility Monitoring Systems (FMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) for mission-critical environments. This role will be responsible for working across the full project lifecycle, from pre-sales through commissioning, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective control system solutions that meet client specifications. Key Responsibilities Serve as the Controls Engineer on assigned projects from pre-sales through commissioning Design and develop FMS/BMS systems based on customer requirements and specifications Collaborate with third-party vendors to design control schemes using PLCs and relay-based systems Develop bills of materials (BOM) and modify standard assemblies as needed Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and project requirements Work with integration partners to develop schematic design (SD), detailed design (DD), and construction documents (CD) Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external stakeholders Review and approve FMS/BMS submittals and documentation Support system integration, testing, and commissioning activities Perform quality control throughout system integration and installation phases Provide technical support during construction and project execution Conduct site visits, audits, and system start-up activities as required Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during and after implementation Develop innovative and cost-effective control solutions Technical Skills Experience with FMS/BMS design, installation, and operation Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, SNMP, TCP/IP, and RS-485 Familiarity with PLC-based control systems and automation Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience Minimum 4+ years of Controls Engineering experience Strong understanding of building systems and control system integration Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes related to control systems Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience in data center or mission-critical facility environments Project management experience Exposure to new technologies in automation and smart building systems.
