Controls EngineerLocation:

$80-125k DOEPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems that ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of automated equipment. The ideal candidate will develop PLC and HMI logic, design electrical control panels, integrate field networks and industrial Ethernet, and apply NEC and UL standards to documentation and installations. This role collaborates with mechanical and process teams from concept through startup and supports troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and customer-facing activities.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and debug PLC logic for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, Rockwell platforms, and Siemens controllers.
Develop and configure
HMI/SCADA
screens and applications, including Wonderware and other common HMI tools.Integrate and commission industrial communications including Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and other fieldbus protocols.
Create electrical control panel designs and layouts in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with NEC and UL standards.
Prepare technical documentation including schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and PLC/HMI documentation.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to develop control strategies and accommodate design changes.
Perform factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and support on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
Troubleshoot control systems, PLC code, HMI logic, and network communications both remotely and on-site.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and ensure adherence to industry safety and electrical standards.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing system performance and implementing optimizations.
Provide technical support to customers and end users, including training, handovers, and written reports.
Manage project deliverables, schedules, and change requests while communicating status to stakeholders.
Qualifications3+ years of experience with PLC and HMI programming using Allen Bradley, ControlLogix or Wonderware.
Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP.Experience in electrical panel design, wiring schematics, and familiarity with NEC and UL standards.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for panel/layout design.
Industry experience with food, beverage, packaging, or consumer goods is preferred.
