Job Description

Job Title:
Electrical Engineer We are currently accepting applications for an EE role supporting a local client as they ramp up a new design of their system. This is an onsite role in the Portland area, so local talent will be prioritized. However, strong profiles of talent ready to relocate themselves to the area within a couple of weeks will also be considered. Job Description The Electrical Engineer leads the design, development, and delivery of projects. This role owns electrical designs from early concept through final product release and supports both internal product development and external customer projects. The engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams and serves as a technical leader, mentor, and subject matter expert in battery energy storage systems, helping advance solutions. Responsibilities + Own the electrical design of products from early development through final product release. + Develop conceptual layouts, one-line diagrams, and detailed electrical designs for grid-scale projects through Issue for Construction (IFC) packages. + Create detailed electrical engineering designs for microgrid and distributed energy resource projects. + Evaluate, analyze, and compare energy storage technologies, products, and vendors to support technology and vendor selection and implementation. + Develop and review engineering design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents at various design milestones. + Prepare clear, well-structured technical reports explaining battery energy storage concepts, feasibility studies, and use-case analyses for diverse audiences. + Support project execution and business development by participating in meetings with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders. + Provide construction-phase technical support, including bid addenda, submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, construction progress reports, and change orders. + Coordinate closely with civil, structural, fire and life safety (FLS), power systems, and SCADA teams and contractors to deliver complete IFC design packages. + Participate in design reviews with internal stakeholders, governing agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). + Serve as a technical mentor and counselor to junior engineering staff, providing guidance on power systems design. + Plan and coordinate project workload to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality engineering documents. + Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of work performed by other engineers, designers, and technicians. + Provide technical assistance and subject-matter expertise to internal teams and external customers as needed. + Support the development and continuous improvement of internal engineering design guidelines, catalogs, and templates. + Contribute directly to technical, R D, and project development activities through creation and review of engineering documents. + Support grid integration efforts, including transitioning power from distribution lines into the storage system and back to the grid. + Collaborate with utility partners to support integration of battery systems into the grid, including feasibility studies and use-case analyses. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent accredited agency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Approximately 8+ years of proven engineering experience coming from power systems, utility, facilities and/or industrial equipment industries. + Strong fundamentals in electrical and mechanical principles. + Experience in power systems engineering with a focus on low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) installations. + Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings. + Proficiency with one or more drafting software packages for one-line diagram creation and site construction layout. + Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, fast-paced engineering environments with minimal oversight or direction. + Experience in electrical engineering and power system design, including schematic development. + Demonstrated capability in project and client support, including technical communication and analytical support for utility partners. + Strong documentation, reporting, and technical communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not required. + Systems-level thinking with the ability to optimize products across disciplines and technical domains. + Ability to interpret engineering deliverables and understand their impact on construction feasibility. + Knowledge of at least one of the following standards:
UL 9540, IEC
62932, or NFPA 70 (NEC). + Proficiency in test planning, experimental design, and statistical data analysis for subscale and production-level systems. + Understanding of battery chemistry fundamentals, including flow batteries and the specific challenges associated with their implementation. + Motivation to contribute to the development of sustainable, clean energy storage solutions. + Strong collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, utilities, and external partners. Work Environment The role operates in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment. You will work closely with civil, structural, fire and life safety, power systems, and SCADA specialists, as well as utility partners, contractors, and vendors. The work involves regular use of engineering and drafting software for one-line diagrams and site construction layouts, preparation of technical documentation, and participation in design reviews and project meetings. #LI-MH3 Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $135000.00 - $155000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
