The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship designed to prepare recent Ph. D. graduates for faculty careers centered on teaching, student mentorship, and educational leadership. We welcome applicants interested in all areas of electrical engineering, computer engineering, and closely related fields. The fellowship combines substantive classroom experience with structured mentorship from ECE faculty alongside college and university faculty development programming. Fellows will develop their capabilities as engineering educators through teaching, course and laboratory development, and reflection on student learning. We welcome applicants who are enthusiastic about helping students connect foundational concepts with practical engineering problems and who aspire to teaching-track faculty positions or faculty careers at institutions with a strong teaching mission. Fellows will teach and co-teach undergraduate and/or graduate ECE courses aligned with their expertise and departmental needs, with opportunities to serve as instructor of record. Teaching assignments will be planned to provide increasing independence while preserving significant time for professional development. Each fellow will work with one or more designated faculty mentors to establish an individualized development plan. The fellowship will include regular mentoring meetings, classroom observation and feedback, and opportunities to develop course materials, laboratory experiences, assignments, and assessments. Fellows will also receive guidance in assembling a teaching portfolio, preparing faculty application materials, and developing teaching demonstrations. Teaching and preparing for a teaching faculty career are the fellowship's primary activities. Fellows may pursue other scholarly activities consistent with their professional goals and fellowship activities. Applicants must hold a Ph. D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, a computer science, or a closely related field by the appointment start date. Candidates should demonstrate strong disciplinary preparation, clear communication, and, most importantly, a thoughtful interest in how students learn and a commitment to supporting students with varied backgrounds. Evidence of teaching potential may come from teaching assistantships, tutoring, mentoring, outreach, curriculum development, or other educational activities. It is understood that such experience will be nascent compared to that of teaching faculty candidates. This is a full-time, academic year appointment beginning fall 2027. It is potentially renewable for up to two (2) years in total, but there is no built-in expectation of renewal. Summer support may potentially be available and can be discussed alongside a plan for summer activity.
