Are you the kind of engineer who is just as comfortable on a ladder pulling cable as you are programming a controller or writing a functional test script? Do you want your work to drive real projects, in real buildings, with measurable results? DMA Engineering is looking for a hands-on, certified Commissioning & Controls Engineer to lead commissioning and controls delivery across our commercial, residential and community project portfolio. In this role, you will own the path from design intent to installed, tuned, and verified performance -- combining commissioning rigor, Tridium Niagara programming, SkySpark analytics, and real field work, possibly even with the wire strippers in your hand. We are seeking someone who is resourceful, technically deep, and confident making decisions in the field and at the design table. If you are tired of being boxed into either pure paperwork commissioning or pure controls programming, this role lets you do both with excellence on projects that matter. Why This Role is Exciting This is a rare seat for an engineer who wants to see a project all the way through. As a Commissioning & Controls Engineer , you will translate design intent into operating reality. It will be you who writes the commissioning plan, programs the controllers, terminates the wires, witnesses the tests, and stands behind the analytics that prove the building works. You will join a founder-run, entrepreneurial team that values sustainable e MEP design and pushes beyond standard practice and minimal codes. DMA's roots are in geothermal HVAC and high-performance systems, and our commissioning and analytics work is what proves those systems actually deliver. You will be a critical strategic partner on every project you touch to drive the outcomes that owners and operators feel immediately. This role is for engineers who are tired of bureaucratic systems and cubicles and want a position where their craftsmanship, professional experience and judgment truly matter. What You Will Do This role bridges design, installation, and operations.
You will:
Lead commissioning on new construction commissioning and retro-commissioning projects, from OPR/BOD development through functional testing, issue logs, and final commissioning reports Write and execute pre-functional checklists and functional test procedures across HVAC, controls, and integrated systems Engineer and program Tridium Niagara/JACE control systems, including graphics, schedules, alarms, trends, and integration with third-party devices Build SkySpark dashboards, rules, and fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) for ongoing monitoring-based commissioning and M&V Run and terminate controls wiring in the field during installs, with line voltage and low voltage, and produce clean as-built documentation Coordinate with mechanical and electrical contractors, controls subcontractors, and the DMA design team to keep installs on schedule and on spec Perform site observations during construction, walk projects with owners and contractors, and represent DMA professionally on the jobsite Improve standard operating procedures for our commissioning and controls workflows, and mentor junior staff as the team grows What We Are Looking For You are driven to do more than the basics. You currently hold an active commissioning certification and a Niagara certification because you take your craft seriously, and you keep building skills beyond the credential. You are curious, willing to learn new tools, and genuinely enjoy trouble-shooting and problem-solving until the building runs the way it should. You communicate clearly with field crews, contractors, designers, and owners. You can handle variety in your workday: write a tight functional test script in the morning, terminate a controller in the afternoon, and explain a SkySpark fault rule to a facilities manager the next day. You thrive in a task-driven environment with ambitious goals and excel both in direct in-person collaboration and in focused virtual work. Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical training combined with the certifications and experience listed below Active commissioning certification from ASHRAE (BCxP) or AEE (CBCP or CxA), in good standing Active Tridium Niagara certification (Niagara 4) Demonstrated proficiency withSkySpark:
