Job Description

Job Title:
Electrical Design Engineer Job Description This role focuses on electrical design for large commercial buildings, including developing complete construction documents, performing engineering calculations, and selecting equipment. The Electrical Design Engineer collaborates closely with architects and project stakeholders, contributes to cost estimates and specifications, and supports projects from initial design through bidding and construction. The position offers flexibility to work fully remote while engaging in a variety of building design projects. Responsibilities Design electrical systems for large commercial buildings, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. Prepare detailed engineering reports, including technical analyses and recommendations. Develop cost estimates for electrical systems and contribute to overall project budgeting. Create and develop technical specifications for electrical equipment and systems. Perform electrical calculations, including load calculations and other necessary engineering analyses. Select electrical equipment for specification based on project needs, performance criteria, and cost considerations. Prepare complete construction documents for bidding, including drawings, schedules, and supporting documentation. Produce electrical design drawings using both AutoCAD and Revit software. Develop and maintain construction documents for electrical design, coordinating with other disciplines as needed. Conduct site visits and surveys to gather field information, verify existing conditions, and support design decisions. Manage project deadlines, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery of design packages and documentation. Interact and coordinate with clients, architects, and other design professionals throughout the project lifecycle. Support mechanical design efforts as needed by creating construction documents and performing related site surveys and load calculations. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. 3-10 years of relevant electrical engineering or electrical design experience. Experience creating electrical designs for building projects, ideally including large commercial buildings. Proficiency in Revit for electrical design and documentation. Proficiency in AutoCAD for producing and editing electrical drawings. Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and building electrical systems. Ability to develop construction documents for electrical design projects. Experience performing electrical load calculations and related engineering analyses. Ability to prepare reports, cost estimates, specifications, and construction documents. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, architects, and project teams. Ability to manage multiple project deadlines and work independently in a remote environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience working on any type of building design projects, including commercial facilities. Experience developing construction documents for multidisciplinary building projects. Professional Engineer (PE) background or exposure is beneficial. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, coordinated documents. Ability to perform site surveys and translate field information into design documents. Work Environment This position offers the flexibility to work fully remote while maintaining close collaboration with project teams. The typical schedule follows an 8-5 workday, with flexibility on work hours to support work-life balance and project needs. Team members can work on any project from any office location, enabling exposure to a wide variety of building design projects. Work is primarily performed using Revit and AutoCAD, along with standard office and engineering software tools. The role includes occasional site visits or surveys to assess existing conditions and support accurate design. The environment emphasizes professional collaboration, clear communication with architects and clients, and a focus on delivering high-quality construction documents for building design. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/hr.
