Job Description

Electrical Engineer (Controls & Panel Design)
Location:
Greer, SC — onsite
Pay:
$90,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience Job type: Full time, permanent, salaried (exempt), 40 hours per week
Openings:
2
Start:
Minimum two weeks from offer The role An established automation systems integrator in Greer, SC is hiring two Electrical Engineers to design the control systems that go into custom automation equipment for their end users. This is a design seat.
You own the electrical package:
schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, network architecture drawings, cable schedules and bills of materials. You select the components, run the calculations, and stand behind the drawing when the panel gets built. Both openings are at the experienced end. You will be working across varied machines and varied customer specifications rather than iterating one product line. What you will be doing Designing electrical control systems and producing the full documentation package: schematics, single-line and three-line diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, network architecture drawings, cable schedules and BOMs. Selecting and specifying components — PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and drives, motors, sensors, safety relays, power supplies, breakers, contactors. Designing control panels to
UL 508A, NEC
(NFPA 70) and NFPA 79: power distribution, motor control circuits, emergency stop and safety circuits, grounding, enclosure layout. Building and maintaining design packages in electrical CAD. Performing load, voltage drop, SCCR and protection coordination calculations, and taking part in design reviews. Supporting panel fabrication, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting. Working alongside mechanical, software, manufacturing and project teams to integrate the electrical design into the wider system. Essential requirements Every application is assessed against these. They are the client's conditions, not preferences, and we screen against all of them in writing before anyone is put forward. US work authorization. You must already hold full authorization to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available for this role, now or in the future. Onsite in Greer, SC. This is an onsite role at the Greer office and shop. You need to be local to the Upstate SC area or already committed to being onsite from your start date at your own arrangement. Remote or hybrid is not available. Travel and out-of-hours working. Up to 25% travel to client sites and manufacturing plants, plus evenings, weekends and holidays during installations, commissioning and shutdowns. Salary expectation inside $90,000 - $120,000 and acceptance of salaried, exempt status. Minimum 3 years hands-on controls hardware design. Three or more years personally producing the design package for industrial control systems — schematics, panel layouts, I/O lists, BOMs — including component selection. Titles vary, so we assess on what you produced. Time spent building panels to someone else's print, maintaining equipment, installing, or writing PLC code does not count towards the three years. Minimum 1 year electrical CAD. Production use of EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical to produce schematics and panel layouts. Working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 79 and UL 508A , demonstrated in your own design work. This is tested in conversation, not taken from a skills list. Associate's degree (A.A./A.S.) or equivalent minimum. Bachelor's in electrical engineering preferred. Design calculations. You have personally done load, voltage drop and short circuit current rating (SCCR) calculations on panels you designed, and can explain your method. Desirable Previous experience at an automation firm, machine builder or systems integrator. One to two years programming controls related hardware. Preferred, not required. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Breadth of component selection across Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, safety relays and drives. Network architecture experience — EtherNet/IP, Profinet.
Shop floor exposure:
panel build support, FAT, commissioning, troubleshooting. What this role is not Worth saying plainly so nobody wastes their time: It is not a panel build or fabrication seat. You produce the drawings, you do not wire the enclosure. It is not a PLC or HMI programming seat. Programming is useful here, but the job is hardware design. It is not a maintenance, field service or commissioning role. It is not building services, MEP, power distribution or PCB design. If you have moved from any of those backgrounds into a design role and have the three years of design work behind you, you are in scope. Process Two to three interview stages. Offers are subject to the client's standard pre-employment checks. All screening on our side is done in writing. You will be sent a short set of written questions covering your design work, the codes, and your calculations before anything goes to the client. No phone screening. Applications are handled by Darren Pallatina Designs, retained on this search. Your CV and screening answers go to the client and are not retained afterwards. How to apply Apply through Indeed with an up to date CV. If your CV does not make your design work obvious, add two or three lines on one control panel you designed end to end — what the machine did, the incoming supply, rough I/O count, and which drawings you personally produced.
