Electrical Engineer - John Deere Turf & Utility Equipment This is a high-visibility, intellectually stimulating 2+ year contract opportunity paying up to $54/hr , including 2 weeks of PTO . Operating fully onsite in Horicon, WI during 1st shift core hours, this role places you at the center of the product development lifecycle. You will own electrical system requirements, design and release vehicle harnesses, manage bills of materials (BOM), and partner with component suppliers to bring next-generation turf and compact utility platforms to life.
Position Details & Compensation Pay Rate:
Up to $54/hr (W2).
Location:
100% Onsite Only at John Deere (Horicon, WI).
Duration:
2+ Years (Providing outstanding multi-year contract stability).
Shift & Hours:
1st Shift, core hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST , Monday - Friday (Occasional off-shift hours may be needed to support factory builds).
Travel Requirements:
Up to 10% travel (domestic and international) to support testing and supplier integrations.
Strictly NOT available now or in the near future for this position.
Core Responsibilities Electrical System Architecture:
Own and develop hardware and software system requirements for Riding Lawn Mowers and Compact Utility Tractors in close collaboration with PV&V, Quality, and Program Management teams.
Harness Design & Release:
Design, develop, and release vehicle electrical systems—including complex wiring harnesses and schematics—directly into the John Deere production release system.
BOM & Component Management:
Create, organize, and manage detailed Bills of Materials (BOM) for vehicle electrical builds.
Supplier Integration:
Partner with external component suppliers to evaluate technical feasibility, direct component development, and ensure seamless vehicle integration.
Shop Floor & Build Support:
Provide hands-on engineering build support at various stages throughout the prototype and production development cycles.
3+ years of hands-on experience in vehicle electrical system design, integration, or physical testing.
Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrated experience developing or testing electrical components, wiring harnesses, schematics, and a strong fundamental grasp of hardware/software interactions.
Project Ownership:
Proven history owning project deliverables, organizing system schematics, and managing time independently.
Communication & Flexibility:
Clear, concise written and verbal communication habits, with the willingness to work occasional off-shift hours to support vehicle build schedules.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline (or equivalent related work experience). What Makes You Stand Out Prior design experience with agricultural equipment, off-highway machinery, or heavy utility vehicles. Experience developing wiring harnesses and vehicle routing using 3D CAD platforms. Background in embedded software testing/scripting, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test stands. Practical experience leading design/test tasks with remote teams or mentoring junior engineers. Familiarity with formal Systems Engineering practices and advanced cross-disciplinary training.
