Job Title:
Electrical Designer Job Description The Electrical Designer will design lighting and power systems for horizontal infrastructure projects, such as roadway, railway, and intelligent transportation systems. This role performs detailed electrical calculations using engineering formulas and specialized software, prepares point-by-point lighting and energy code compliance calculations, and develops clear and accurate project specifications. The Electrical Designer also researches and interprets relevant electrical and energy code requirements to ensure all designs meet applicable standards and regulations. Responsibilities + Design lighting and power systems for horizontal projects, including roadway, railway, intelligent transportation systems, and signals. + Perform electrical calculations using engineering formulas and appropriate design software to support project requirements. + Prepare point-by-point lighting calculations to ensure proper illumination levels and uniformity for transportation projects. + Develop energy code compliance calculations to verify that designs meet applicable energy efficiency and regulatory standards. + Create comprehensive project specifications that clearly define materials, equipment, installation methods, and performance criteria. + Research and interpret electrical and energy code requirements to ensure all designs comply with current regulations and industry standards. + Collaborate with project teams to coordinate electrical design with other disciplines and project stakeholders. + Support ongoing transportation projects with DEN and CDOT-type agencies by providing accurate and timely electrical design deliverables. + Contribute to a strong backlog of work by delivering high-quality designs that help the firm win and retain projects. + Demonstrate readiness to take on increasing responsibility, with the potential to grow into a Project Manager role over time. Essential Skills + At least 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or electrical design for transportation projects, including roadway, railway, intelligent transportation systems, and signals. + Proficiency in electrical design of lighting and power systems for horizontal infrastructure projects. + Experience performing electrical calculations using engineering formulas and design software. + Ability to prepare detailed point-by-point lighting calculations for transportation applications. + Experience developing energy code compliance calculations for electrical and lighting systems. + Ability to prepare clear and accurate project specifications for electrical systems. + Familiarity with researching and applying electrical and energy code requirements. + Hands-on experience using AutoCAD for transportation-related electrical design. + Practical experience using AGI32 for lighting calculations and analysis. + Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with MicroStation is a plus. + Experience with Revit is a plus. + Background in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline. + Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams. + Interest in progressing into a Project Manager role as responsibilities grow. + Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex technical requirements. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment The role is based in a professional engineering environment focused on transportation and infrastructure projects with a strong backlog of ongoing and future work. The Electrical Designer works closely with project teams on roadway, railway, intelligent transportation systems, and signal projects, using tools such as AutoCAD, AGI32, MicroStation, and Revit. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
