On-site About Us Recreational Electrical is a specialty vehicle upfitter serving first responders, public works, and other government agencies. We build mission-ready vehicles equipped with lighting, sirens, radios, safety equipment, and more. We design and manufacture our vehicle wiring harnesses in-house. Because these harnesses are central to the operation of each vehicle's electrical equipment, accurate and timely designs are essential to vehicle safety, production efficiency, and dependable field performance. About the Position We are looking for a 12V DC Automotive Wiring Harness Designer to take ownership of the electrical schematics, harness drawings, formboards, and production documentation used throughout our vehicle builds. This is a high-accountability, primarily computer-based design position—not a traditional electrical-engineering role. An engineering degree is not required . We welcome candidates from automotive electrical, wiring-harness, vehicle-upfitting, electrical-drafting, manufacturing-design, and other relevant technical backgrounds. Training will be provided in Cadonix Arcadia, our vehicle applications, and other company-specific systems. The right person must be prepared to develop the technical knowledge and judgment required to produce accurate, production-ready designs and support them through assembly and installation. What You'll Do Harness Design and Production Support Create and revise electrical schematics and wiring-harness drawings for 12V DC vehicle systems using Cadonix Arcadia. Translate electrical requirements and physical vehicle measurements into accurate, buildable harness designs. Design and improve formboards and create clear documentation for employees assembling and installing the harnesses. Spend time on the production floor and inside vehicles taking measurements, reviewing work in progress, and investigating fitment, routing, electrical, or documentation issues. Work with harness assemblers, installers, and prototype engineers to resolve problems and incorporate verified production feedback. Quality and Process Improvement Help develop practical quality-control standards and identify appropriate design-review, inspection, and testing points. Assist in developing verification tools and procedures, including test harnesses or fixtures. Document defects, help determine root causes, and implement improvements to designs, formboards, documentation, and workflows. Support lean-manufacturing efforts by reducing errors, rework, and unnecessary variation. Systems and Future Development Help improve our internal harness-production software using AI-assisted development tools and feedback from employees who use the system. Develop limited 3D CAD capabilities in Fusion 360 for future component-placement work. Minimum Qualifications Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, or harness drawings. Ability to accurately use a tape measure and translate physical measurements into designs. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn specialized software. Careful attention to detail and the ability to organize work around production timelines. Willingness to work on the production floor and inside vehicles when hands-on review or measurements are needed. Ability to communicate clearly with the employees building and installing the designs. Ability to understand job-related instructions and safety documentation in English. Preferred Qualifications Experience with 12V DC automotive or specialty-vehicle electrical systems. Experience with Cadonix, and/or designing and manufacturing automotive wiring harnesses. Experience creating electrical schematics or technical drawings. Familiarity with connectors, terminals, wire selection, circuit protection, labeling, routing, and electrical troubleshooting. Experience with formboards, harness testing, quality control, root-cause analysis, or process documentation. Experience in a lean-manufacturing or continuous-improvement environment. Comfort using AI-assisted software tools. Experience with Fusion 360 or another 3D CAD program. You do not need to meet every preferred qualification to apply. We are willing to train someone who brings a strong technical foundation, sound judgment, and the ability to grow into full ownership of the position.
