Substation Designer Brooksource - 3.7 Maitland, FL Job Details Full-time $44 - $49 an hour 6 hours ago Benefits Health savings account Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Flexible spending account Paid time off Employee assistance program Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Customer communication High school diploma or GED Revit Attention to detail NEC Certification 2D CAD drafting Associate's degree Full Job Description Onsite Role in Maitland, FL 6 Month Contract-to-hire Pay range: $45-$49/hr Our client, a nationally recognized, 100% employee-owned engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm , is seeking a Substation Designer to support the substation design team and work on independent projects. The Substation Designer will perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical design, and preparation of construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a substation design team. This role will train directly under the team's senior designer and a second lead, taking on some of their workload while supporting billability on another account. The first 90 days will focus on learning client standards and systems (may include some drafting); independent assignments follow after that. This position offers a competitive hourly rate, benefits, and the opportunity to work with a nationally recognized EPC firm.
Responsibilities:
Support substation design work, including electrical schematics, substation layouts, grid plans, and other electrical power system drawings, using MicroStation and AutoCAD. Plan and develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on assignments of increasing variety and complexity. Execute design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, and refining rough sketches. Execute changes to designs or sketches, and redlines or mark-ups, on ongoing projects. Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and support project design work. Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements. Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule. Organize and maintain project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical, well-structured manner. Responsible for clear and concise written and verbal communication as it relates to project and client coordination. Interface with an offshore support team on a limited, flexible basis (roughly weekly); not required during the first 90 days. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards.
Requirements:
Associate's Degree in drafting/design technology and minimum 3+ years of related design experience (drafting experience alone does not meet this requirement) OR High School Diploma/equivalent and minimum 3+ years of related design experience, with a demonstrated background in substation, transmission, or distribution design
Skills & Qualifications:
MicroStation and AutoCAD proficiency required. Revit experience is a plus but not required; Inventor 3D experience is an acceptable transferable alternative. AutoCAD Electrical (ACE) experience is a plus. Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings. Advanced knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems. Substation design background is ideal; open to transmission/distribution designers as well. Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues and accomplish objectives. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
