Job Description

Overview Join our innovative team as an Electrical Controls Designer, where you will play a vital role in developing and detailing electrical control systems for a variety of engineering projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine technical expertise with creative problem-solving, contributing to the design and documentation of complex electrical systems. You will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that designs meet all safety standards, building codes, and client specifications, while utilizing cutting-edge CAD and BIM tools to bring concepts to life. Responsibilities Develop detailed electrical system designs, schematics, and layouts using CAD software such as AutoCAD. Create accurate electrical documentation including wiring diagrams, schematics, and system layouts aligned with NEC and NFPA 70 compliance standards. Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate electrical controls into overall building or system designs, ensuring seamless system functionality. Ensure all electrical designs adhere to relevant building codes, electrical engineering standards, and safety regulations. Support construction teams by providing detailed drawings and technical guidance during installation phases. Skills Proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and Creo for electrical drafting. Strong knowledge of electrical system design principles, wiring practices, and schematic development. Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) tools such as NavisWorks for project coordination. Understanding of electrical codes such as NEC (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 70 compliance requirements. Experience with electrical wiring layout design, system integration, and control panel schematics. Ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams on complex projects involving electrical controls and automation systems like programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Skilled in using Microsoft Office suite for documentation, reporting, and communication purposes. Construction experience or familiarity with electrical installation processes is a plus. Why this job is different from the last three you looked at At a big house, you draw what an engineer specs and hand it off. Here, one designer owns the electrical package for a machine — schematics, panel layout, BOM, safety circuit, field documentation — and then stands at both runoffs to watch it work. We run a runoff at MAS before the equipment ships and a second at the customer plant after install. You'll see your design produce parts. That feedback loop is the whole reason people who leave the big integrators end up somewhere like us. Who we build for American Axle is our largest customer, and we support multiple AAM plants including Three Rivers, Rochester, and Bluffton. Alongside that we do work for Dana, GKN, Lucid Motors, KUKA, Yanfeng, MacLean-Fogg, and BTM.
Being honest about it:
a designer here will spend a lot of time in AAM specs and AAM plants. That's a real feature — you develop deep customer knowledge and repeat business instead of chasing one-off spot jobs — and it's a real consideration. Ask us about it in the interview and we'll give you a straight answer on our mix and where we're taking it. The work spans a wider range than most shops In a given year you'll touch everything from a two-week barcode scanner add or a welder relocation, through mid-size cells — end-of-line dunnage, oil fill, run-in stations, press and weld robot integration — up to multi-million-dollar retools with a dozen sub-assemblies running most of a year.
Recent examples:
a hub dial cell replacing manual load, gauge, and unload with two robots at 16-18 second cycle, and a multi-station eLocker line retool. [Guessing on framing — you know better than I do whether the mid-size work reads as variety or as churn to the people you're targeting. If your candidate pool is coming from big-cell integrators, variety sells. If they're coming from panel shops, the big programs sell.] What you'll do Design control schematics and panel layouts in [AutoCAD Electrical / EPLAN Size and specify PLCs, drives, safety relays, I/O, distribution, and pneumatics interface Build BOMs and work directly with purchasing on lead times and substitutions Design safety circuits to the required performance level Support the panel shop through build, and support debug through runoff at MAS and at the customer plant Issue redlines and as-builts What you need 3+ years designing electrical controls for automation equipment or machinery AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN at a production level Working knowledge of NFPA 79 and UL 508A panel construction Familiarity with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms Ability to read mechanical prints and work shoulder-to-shoulder with mechanical designers
Pay:
From $60,000.00 per year
