Job Summary:

We are seeking a Transmission Line Design Technician Intern to provide drafting, hardware design analysis, and asset data entry support for Transmission Line Engineering projects and department goals. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting transmission line projects while working with engineering professionals and technicians. The intern will use AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, GIS, engineering standards, specifications, and other technical resources to assist with drawings, project documentation, material records, asset data, and project closeout activities. This position is based at the Maple Grove, MN headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:

Support engineers and technicians with transmission line projects using AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, GIS, established standards, and specifications. Prepare structure detail and loading drawings using established drafting standards and templates. Prepare construction drawing issue packages for review and signature by the assigned professional engineer. Enter project material and structure asset data into the asset management database. Prepare project bills of materials. Complete project closeout activities for approval by the assigned professional engineer. Assist with updating construction standard drawings and templates. Ensure drawings and project documentation are properly organized and stored. Assist with additional Transmission Line Engineering projects and department initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in an accredited college program in design drafting or a related curriculum. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD drafting principles. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a team environment. Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to address primarily technical issues. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to learn and apply technical standards, specifications, and procedures. You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas.

Working Conditions:

Majority of work is performed in a professional office environment. Some travel to construction sites may be required. Ability to clearly and comfortably view, interpret, and process information using a computer monitor for extended periods during normal working hours. Regular computer and drafting work requiring repetitive motions. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Eligibility for a hybrid work environment may be available following successful integration into the role and at management's discretion.

Internship Schedule:

Full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer. Monday-Friday schedule. Opportunities for full-time hours during academic breaks may be available. Part-time hours of 10+ hours per week may be available during the academic year. Continuation in the internship program is based on performance and business needs.
