Job Description

Job Title:
Distribution Designer Job Description This position will provide distribution design for overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV through 69kV. The Distribution Designer will engage in design activities, including quality reviews, monitoring and maintaining project schedules, and reporting any changes that could affect the schedule and budget. The role involves identifying risks that may impact schedules and costs, as well as presenting opportunities to enhance the design and construction of distribution projects. Additionally, the designer will mentor lower-level designers. Responsibilities Design overhead and/or underground distribution facilities. Prepare design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and necessary documents for construction. Apply client's standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry standards in preparing designs. Perform distribution system design calculations. Prepare and oversee the preparation of design documents for construction, including plan and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications. Communicate with clients and engineers regarding system requirements, and identify Right of Way for proposed equipment. Acquire field data as necessary and work with field surveying to prepare appropriate designs. Promote and perform quality reviews of designs to ensure compliance with client design standards, safety requirements, and good industry practices. Check and validate project drawings and the drawings of peers. Essential Skills One plus years of experience in the design of electric utility distribution systems in a consulting or utility environment responsible for delivery of design and construction packages. One plus years of electrical design experience using AutoCAD. One plus years of experience with distribution design software. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design, or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent experience and/or education. Work Environment The work environment involves designing electric distribution systems using industry-standard technologies, including AutoCAD and other distribution design software. The role requires collaboration with clients and engineers, and may involve field data acquisition and surveying. The position emphasizes quality assurance, adherence to safety standards, and compliance with industry practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
