Job Description
Position Summary:
The adjunct instructor will teach Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers for the Electrical Technology (ELY) program during evening class hours . This course provides students with foundational knowledge of PLC hardware, ladder logic programming, industrial control devices, and troubleshooting methods used in modern electrical and automation systems. Instruction emphasizes hands-on learning, safety, and real-world application aligned with current electrical industry practices. Key Responsibilities- Deliver course content in alignment with Electrical Technology learning outcomes and institutional guidelines.
- Teach PLC fundamentals, including hardware architecture, I/O modules, power supplies, communication networks, and safety circuits.
- Provide instruction in Allen-Bradley CompactLogix platforms, including ladder logic and tag-based addressing.
- Guide students through hands-on labs involving wiring, testing, and troubleshooting PLC-controlled devices such as sensors, relays, contactors, motor starters, and actuators.
- Introduce automation concepts relevant to electrical systems, including sequencing, interlocks, and basic HMI interaction.
- Develop and deliver lectures, demonstrations, and practical lab activities that reinforce real-world electrical control applications.
- Assess student learning through quizzes, programming assignments, lab evaluations, and competency-based demonstrations.
- Maintain a professional, organized, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success.
- Collaborate with ELY faculty to ensure course materials reflect current automation, electrical, and manufacturing standards.
- Participate in required meetings, training, and program assessment activities. Qualifications
- Industry experience in electrical systems, industrial automation, controls, manufacturing, or related technical fields.
- Strong working knowledge of PLC hardware, ladder logic, industrial sensors, motor control, and electrical safety.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and Studio 5000 is required.
- Teaching, training, or mentoring experience desirable.
- Ability to communicate clearly and support students in a hands-on technical learning environment.
- Strong professionalism, organization, and interpersonal skills.
