Generator Technician Job Description This role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and installation support of diesel-powered generator systems in a field service and construction environment. The technician performs preventive maintenance, monitors equipment performance, troubleshoots issues, and supports future generator installations while working with electrical and mechanical systems. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on diesel generator systems to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime. Monitor generator performance and operating conditions, identifying potential issues before they impact service. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on generators and associated equipment using diagnostic tools and technical documentation. Conduct repairs on generator engines, electrical components, and mechanical assemblies in the field and at designated facilities. Support the installation and commissioning of new generator units, including basic electrical and mechanical setup tasks. Utilize Volvo-specific diagnostic tools and procedures after completing Volvo certification training. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections in digital logs using an assigned laptop. Safely operate and care for specialty tools and equipment provided, while supplying and maintaining personal basic hand tools. Respond to rotating on-call assignments on weekends, addressing urgent service needs and field support requests. Work overtime beyond 40 hours per week as required to meet service demands and project timelines. Collaborate with other technicians and site personnel to coordinate work, share technical information, and ensure safe operations. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures related to electrical work, diesel engines, and construction or field service environments. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with diesel engine generators, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Strong mechanical aptitude for working with engines, rotating equipment, and generator assemblies. Foundational electrical skills for working with generator electrical systems, controls, and wiring. Ability to perform generator installation support tasks in field service and construction environments. Experience with generator mechanics gained through military service or equivalent practical experience. Capability to diagnose and resolve issues with Volvo and Pentastar diesel engine platforms after training. Proficiency in field service work, including traveling to sites and working independently with minimal supervision. Willingness and ability to work overtime beyond 40 hours per week and participate in rotating weekend on-call schedules. Ability to use a laptop for diagnostics, documentation, and communication related to service activities. Capacity to supply and use personal basic hand tools while effectively using provided specialty tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Military generator experience or similar structured technical training is highly valued. Experience in construction or industrial environments where generators are installed and maintained. Familiarity with Volvo generator systems and Pentastar diesel engines, with readiness to complete Volvo certification training. Comfort working in field service conditions, including outdoor sites and varied facility environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
