Lead System Engineer Rochester HIlls, MI, United States | req5438 Posted on: 3/10/2026 Lead System Engineer We are currently in search of a Lead System Engineer to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA). The Lead System Engineer drives the system architecture and technical development of advanced automotive electronic and mechatronic systems. The role requires strong system engineering expertise to define system architecture, manage complex requirements, and lead cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. The Senior System Engineer will also serve as a key technical interface with customers and internal stakeholders and is responsible for achieving technical deliverables within program timing and budget targets
Essential Responsibilities:
Define and maintain system architecture for complex electronic and mechatronic products Lead system requirements engineering, including decomposition, allocation, and traceability Translate customer and regulatory requirements into technical system specifications Coordinate technical development between software, hardware, mechanical, and validation teams Lead system design reviews and technical risk assessments Support system integration, verification, and validation activities Identify and manage technical risks and system-level issues during development Interface with customers on technical topics, architecture discussions, and requirement clarification Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and process improvements Support project planning activities by contributing to technical effort estimation and resource planning Monitor system development progress to help ensure technical deliverables are achieved within program timing and budget targets Identify technical risks early and work with the project team to develop mitigation plans that protect project schedule and cost objectives
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar field 7+ years of experience in automotive electronics or embedded system development Proven experience in system architecture and requirements engineering Strong understanding of embedded systems, electronics, and software interaction Strong understanding of mechatronic systems Understanding of wireless technologies such as NFC, BLE and UWB Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments Experience with automotive development frameworks (ASPICE, ISO 26262) Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS) Familiarity with issue tracking and issue resolution tools and methodologies (Jira, 8D, 5-Why…) Experience working with automotive OEM customers
Travel:
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed (~10%).
