The Opportunity This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting advanced power generation facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry‑standard design tools, such as Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley tools. For lighting design, experience with AGI32 is preferred to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across APG facilities. The Team Black & Veatch Operations develops, deploys, and maintains global resources and capabilities that guide execution and process excellence across the organization. Under general direction, supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables. Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables. Provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures. May review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables. Proactively applies BV Quality Program to deliverables. Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts. Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency. Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project. May apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Begins to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation. Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals. Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records. May review the deliverables of others. May define work assignments and maintain schedules. May program control systems or participate in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise. Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. May support field activities. Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external clients' main interests and drivers. Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes. May apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation. Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate required. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Minimum Qualifications Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
