3002564724-2 Apply for this job now Job Description CalPortland seeks a Chief Project Engineer to lead complex construction and plant engineering projects in our Engineering & Design department. You will oversee multidisciplinary design, budgeting, and execution of capital projects, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and sustainability goals. Responsibilities include directing engineering teams and consultants, reviewing and sealing designs, managing schedules and risk, and coordinating with construction, operations, and environmental groups. This role champions innovation, continuous improvement, and compliance while mentoring engineers and supporting CalPortland's culture of collaboration and growth. Responsibilities Lead planning, design, and execution of major capital and plant improvement projects Provide technical oversight and approval of engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and risk from concept through commissioning Coordinate with construction, operations, environmental, and safety teams to ensure constructability and compliance Select, direct, and evaluate external engineering and design consultants Ensure adherence to safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations Drive innovation, value engineering, and sustainable design practices Mentor and develop junior engineers and project staff Prepare and present technical and project status reports to leadership Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and procedures Required Skills Project engineering Structural and civil design Mechanical systems design Construction methods and constructability Project management and scheduling Cost estimation and budgeting Risk management Building codes and industry standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.) Auto CAD/Revit or similar design tools MS Project or Primavera P6
