Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking a dedicated leader to manage a Quality Engineering team within our manufacturing footprint. Reporting to the Senior Quality Engineering Manager, the Quality Engineering Manager has the responsibility for all activities related to the Quality Engineering function within their assigned scope. Providing oversight and direction in the areas of manufacturing controls, design controls, nonconformance management, risk management, data analytics, and product improvement, you will work in close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure product quality is established and maintained at the highest level. We are looking to expand this team with like-minded individuals looking to make a mark in the transportation industry.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
Develops and leads a team of Quality Engineers to create effective quality engineering processes, lead/support strategic projects, and assure compliant and efficient execution of manufacturing processes.
Strategic Alignment:
Collaborates with Quality Leadership to ensure alignment of immediate and long-term strategic Company goals.
Escalation & Resolution:
Alerts the organization to issues in time, and coordinates escalation resolution to resolve potential adverse effects on production flow or compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Works closely with the Quality Control, Supplier Quality, Metrology, and Quality Assurance teams.
MRB Support:
Leads and supports the Material Review Board (MRB), ensuring timely disposition and robust corrective actions.
NPI Support:
Collaborates with cross-functional partners during New Process Introduction (NPI) to ensure quality requirements (e.g., PFMEA, Control Plans) are captured and implemented.
Operational Planning:
Works with multi-functional teams to establish operational plans and ensures uninterrupted support to engineering and manufacturing operations.
Documentation & Review:
Provides support on activities, documents, and records requiring Quality Engineering review and/or approval.
Culture Building:
Builds a culture of quality throughout the business by effectively communicating the "whys and hows" to the team.
Personnel Development:
Sets goals and objectives for Quality personnel that correlate to Company objectives. Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, training, and development of Quality personnel.
Required
Bachelors degree + 8 yrs; Masters + 6 yrs; or PhD + 3 yrs in engineering, technology or related field. In lieu of college degree, a minium of 11 years experience in a quality engineering or related technical field.
Minimum 3 years of direct people management experience.
Strong understanding of mechanical, composite, or electrical systems and standard manufacturing controls.
Desired
Understanding of FAA Regulations, AS9100, AS9110, AS9145, ISO9001.
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE).
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification (Black Belt preferred).
Proven knowledge of core quality tools (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, Control Plans).
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $170,500 - $267,400 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
