Engineering EB Groton Shipyard Overview Department 427, VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Electrical Lead Design Yard (LDY), requires a motivated engineering supervisor to lead a group of engineers to develop an uprated propulsion plant design. This includes completing concept studies, defining electrical plant architecture, sizing major electrical equipment, developing instrumentation and control system architecture and performing electrical analysis. The supervisor will guide technical execution, mentor engineering personnel, and drive cross-discipline integration between engineering and design organizations. This position requires strong leadership, technical depth, and proactive management of scope, cost, and schedule. We are seeking a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment and is committed to developing talent and delivering first-time quality. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Build and maintain a collaborative, inclusive, and rewarding team environment. Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, emphasizing growth in technical capability and engineering judgment. Lead development of propulsion plant arrangements and electrical plant architecture. Manage project scope, schedule, and intermediate milestones using sound project management fundamentals. Ensure technical accuracy, first-time quality, and alignment with cost and schedule objectives across all products. Oversee development of key analysis products, including load, fault, protection/coordination, and stability analyses. Integrate work across engineering and design disciplines to ensure cohesive system development. Prepare and present technical content at periodic program and design reviews. Support engineering key events, certification activities, and program deliverables. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including design yard organizations, program offices, government customers, and vendors. Supervise a team of 813 engineers and partner closely with electrical systems and cableways design teams
Workplace Expectations:
This is an in-office position with opportunities for remote work to support infrequent personal needs Expect for short travel trips (1-2 days) approximately 6-10 times per year to support program reviews, integration with our shipbuilding and design partner, etc. Responsibilities Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to guide technical teams Strong project management skills Working knowledge of MS Project, commitment tracking tools, EVMS, and Artemis. Strong organization, prioritization, and decision-making skills Proven ability to lead the execution of technical work while establishing clear expectations and holding team members accountable Excellent verbal and written communication skills Technical decisionmaking Conflict resolution and negotiation Multi-disciplinary integration Ability to translate high-level functional requirements into system architecture Capable of establishing strongrelationships with the Electric Boat shipyard organizations, Virginia Program Office, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA 08K, PMS450, NNL, and BPMI.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering 5+ years of post-graduate electrical engineering experience Active Secret security clearance is required
Preferred:
Experience with submarine propulsion plant design or electrical system analysis Experience integrating power equipment such as switchboards, converters, inverters, or power electronics Experience planning and executing complex engineering projects involving multiple departments and customers Experience collaborating with equipment vendors on design, manufacturing, and qualification activities Experience in advanced, detail, or production planning roles
