Job Description

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer About the Company Atomic-6 manufactures advanced composites for space, air, sea, and ground systems. We exist to put high-performance composites into extreme environments faster than conventional processes allow—higher fiber content, lower voids, shorter cycles, hardware that is lighter and stronger than the standard. Come build what must survive ocean to orbit and see your work perform in the field. Role and Responsibilities The Vice President, Aircraft Business Unit is the on-site leader accountable for the performance of Atomic-6's aircraft business. The role owns unit strategy, customer delivery, financial results, and team performance. The VP converts company strategy into booked work, executed hardware, and measured P&L outcomes for Group 3 unmanned aircraft and similarly sized manned aircraft—airframes on the order of a passenger car or a four-place light aircraft such as a Cessna 172-class airframe.
Primary duties include:
  • Own Aircraft Business Unit performance against bookings, revenue, margin, on-time delivery, quality, and cash targets set with the COO.
  • Build and execute the near-term operating plan and multi-year growth plan for Group 3 UAS and light manned-aircraft structures and related applications of Atomic-6 composite processes.
  • Lead capture and proposal activity for aircraft programs: bid/no-bid, win themes, price and schedule commitments, and transition from award to execution.
  • Serve as the senior customer interface for aircraft accounts, including UAS OEMs, light-aircraft OEMs, primes, and defense and civil customers as assigned.
  • Define product and application priorities with engineering and operations so material systems, processes, tooling, and work instructions match airworthiness, qualification, quality, and rate requirements for this airframe class.
  • Drive program execution from kickoff through delivery: scope, schedule, cost, risk, configuration, and customer reviews.
  • Establish and review unit operating metrics; identify out-of-tolerance conditions; direct root cause and corrective action.
  • Coordinate with plant operations, quality, supply chain, finance, and engineering so aircraft work is planned, staffed, and executed within process control windows.
  • Build, coach, and hold accountable the aircraft unit team; hire to plan as volume grows.
  • Represent Atomic-6 in aircraft and UAS industry forums, customer technical interchange meetings, and partner discussions as directed.
  • Protect export-controlled technical data and company proprietary process information in all customer and partner activity.
  • Report unit status, risks, and resource needs to the COO on a defined operating cadence. Minimum Qualifications The following are the minimum qualifications required for eligibility for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace, aircraft structures, or unmanned aircraft systems, including program, product, or business-unit leadership.
  • Demonstrated P&L or equivalent full-scope accountability for a product line, program portfolio, or operating unit (bookings, revenue, cost, and delivery).
  • Demonstrated record of winning and executing work on Group 3-class UAS, light manned aircraft, or comparable airframe structures.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft structure development and production practices: requirements flow-down, qualification and acceptance, configuration control, and quality systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a small, dynamic team with minimal oversight and to work hands-on with hardware, customers, and factory issues.
  • Eligibility to access technology subject to U.S. export controls (EAR/ITAR); U.S. person status as defined in applicable regulations. Preferred Skills and Experience The following are used as discriminators for candidates that exceed the basic qualifications above.
  • Master's degree in engineering or MBA.
  • 15+ years in aircraft structures, UAS airframes, or related composite hardware in the Group 3 / light-aircraft size class.
  • Direct experience with composite airframe structures: sandwich and solid laminate, tooling, autoclave or out-of-autoclave cure, machining, bonding, and NDT.
  • Experience selling to or delivering for UAS OEMs, light-aircraft OEMs, DoD aviation customers, or major aircraft primes.
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 23 / Part 107 pathways, military airworthiness (MIL-HDBK-516 or service equivalents), and DoD UAS group definitions.
  • Experience standing up or scaling a business unit, product line, or factory cell from low rate to production.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, AS9100, and aircraft-customer quality clauses.
Additional Requirements Ability to work flexible hours on-site at Kennesaw to support production schedules, customer visits, and reviews. Travel is expected to customer sites, the Wildlight, Florida plant, and industry events as required. Compensation and Benefits Compensation will vary based on demonstrated proficiency in skills, professional experience, and education.
Benefits include:
  • Flexible working hours
Holidays:
9 federal holidays (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day)
