Plans, directs and coordinates activities of engineering department to design, manufacture, and test components, products, and relating tooling by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Provides cost estimates for production parts. Directs and coordinates activities of engineering personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets. Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. Reviews and approves design changes. Work with designers to meet design standards. Directs purchasing activities for tooling, outside services. May be required to perform some duties of process, mechanical, and electrical engineering in their absence. Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to help understand unplanned equipment downtime, implement predictive maintenance solutions and performance optimization. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, supervision and evaluation of the engineering department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or minimum of seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts of algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry, SPC
QC. REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
6-Sigma, SPC Lean Management, preferred but not required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Blueprint reading a must. Hand held measuring instruments - caliper - micrometers. Must possess good people skills
