Not currently available Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead engineering and maintenance activities within a high-volume manufacturing operation in Roscommon, Michigan. The Engineering Manager will oversee engineering programs, manufacturing processes, equipment development, continuous improvement initiatives, preventative maintenance, and new product launches. This position will also lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and partner closely with operations, corporate engineering, suppliers, contractors, and other functional groups. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of engineering experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a bachelor's degree in Engineering. Automotive manufacturing experience is highly preferred, particularly experience supporting General Motors or Chrysler/Stellantis programs. What You'll Do Lead and coordinate engineering and maintenance functions, including manufacturing planning, process development, equipment development, and continuous improvement. Manage and develop a team that includes Controls Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Facilities and Tooling, and Industrial Engineering. Develop and improve manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment, assembly methods, and quality standards. Evaluate manufacturing equipment, processes, operations, and assembly methods to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, uptime, and productivity. Direct engineering projects and assign activities based on business priorities, production requirements, and project schedules. Monitor engineering workflow and evaluate project results, methods, and procedures. Evaluate vendor and supplier proposals for new manufacturing equipment. Participate in equipment design reviews, runoffs, installation, implementation, and continuous improvement activities. Analyze workforce utilization, space requirements, equipment layout, and workflow to improve manufacturing efficiency. Support plant layout and facility improvement projects, including automated equipment, utilities, lighting, buildings, and related infrastructure. Coordinate improvement projects with engineering staff, project managers, contractors, utility providers, suppliers, and other partners. Partner with management, engineering, operations, and other departments to address manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, equipment requirements, and process improvements. Oversee preventative maintenance and equipment repair responsibilities. Serve as the primary liaison between plant engineering and corporate engineering resources. Develop and manage engineering and technical budgets. Monitor engineering and maintenance KPIs, including mean time between failure (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR). Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Manufacturing Engineering & Continuous Improvement In this role, you will also: Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing and engineering standards. Improve manufacturing processes, labor utilization, and operational efficiency. Support line balancing and labor-standard development. Apply MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) or similar work measurement methodologies when applicable. Identify opportunities to reuse available or idle equipment and manufacturing assets. Improve equipment functionality based on production needs and lessons learned. Help develop and implement engineering standards and best practices across the organization. Product Launch & Project Management Lead engineering activities supporting new product launches and manufacturing projects. Drive cross-functional participation and accountability. Develop engineering schedules and track critical milestones. Monitor project and capital spending. Coordinate engineering deliverables to support successful launch timing. Participate in advanced manufacturing and program-readiness activities. Support initial labor assessments and manufacturing feasibility evaluations. Partner with Materials teams to develop material flow processes. Lead or support Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA). Support design-for-manufacturing activities and resolution of production build issues. Perform capacity analysis and evaluate equipment requirements. Develop project timelines, critical paths, and spending forecasts. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead projects, engineering activities, and cross-functional teams. Knowledge of project management and critical-path scheduling. Ability to analyze manufacturing information and data, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, tooling, and production systems. Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, including equipment sizing, system interactions, and electrical protection. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC software and ladder logic. Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software, including the ability to modify and develop 2D layouts. Knowledge of regulatory and industry standards, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and applicable manufacturing practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, suppliers, contractors, and other cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Automotive manufacturing experience. Experience supporting General Motors or Chrysler/Stellantis programs. Experience with automotive manufacturing launches. Knowledge of MOST labor-standard methodology, line balancing, and labor-efficiency analysis. Experience with fastening strategies and Atlas Copco ToolsTalk software. Knowledge of automotive quality management systems and standards, including IATF 16949 and
ISO 14001.
Experience with MVP One or another Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Experience with PLCs, sensors, industrial controls, and controls communication systems.
