Production Planning Engineer We are looking to hire a Production Planning Engineer to serve as the vital technical bridge between project management, estimating, engineering drawings, and shop floor operations. In this role, you will take awarded project scopes, initial estimates, and customer drawings, translating them into executable operational plans. You will be responsible for breaking down print packages, configuring Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings, and setting up Manufacturing Orders (MOs), Purchase Orders (POs) for project-specific materials/outsourced processes, and Delivery Orders (DOs) to ensure projects are executed accurately, safely, and on schedule. Your Work Activities (include but not limited to)
Scope & Drawing Translation:
Review customer prints, CAD models, weldments, and initial project estimates to establish detailed shop floor work instructions, nested material requirements, BOMs, and operational routings.
Order Creation & System Execution:
Set up and maintain Manufacturing Orders (MOs), Purchase Orders (POs) for job-specific raw materials/outsourced operations, and Delivery Orders (DOs) within the ERP system.
CNC Programming:
Assist with CNC programming as needed or able for lasers, machining, and punching.
Material & Vendor Planning:
Identify hardware, specialty stock, and outsourced secondary processes (e.g., coating, heat treating, machining); collaborate with vendors and purchasing to issue POs aligned with project timelines.
Shop Floor Package Preparation:
Package drawing sets, cut lists, hardware lists, and quality checkpoints so production teams can execute work cleanly without ambiguity.
Setting Initial Production Schedule:
Schedule the work order where the currently fit in the production schedule for MOs.
Cross-Departmental Alignment:
Partner directly with Project Managers, Estimators, and Shop Floor Supervisors to sequence work orders according to delivery milestones and shop capacity.
Engineering Change Management:
Process engineering change orders (ECOs) or customer scope modifications promptly, updating BOMs, routings, and open system orders in real time.
Experience We Require You Have:
Experience:
3+ years in custom metal fabrication, job shop manufacturing, or project-based engineering environments.
Technical Aptitude:
Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, sheet metal developments, and CAD files.
ERP Proficiency:
Hands-on experience building multi-level BOMs, routings, MOs, and POs inside an ERP/MRP environment.
Process Knowledge:
Practical understanding of metal fabrication operations including cutting, punching, forming, welding, secondary finishing, and final assembly.
Precision & Ownership:
Exceptional attention to detail with a proactive mindset to identify missing drawing specifications or estimate gaps before work hits the shop floor. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience will be considered.

Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm (flexible to 7:00am-3:30 OR 4 10's Schedule)

Starting at $85,000
