Civil Project Engineer / Project Manager - Commercial Site Development $90,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications About the Opportunity Bax Engineering Company is seeking an experienced Civil Project Engineer / Project Manager to join our Commercial Engineering team in St. Charles, Missouri. We are looking for an engineer who is ready to take ownership of projects, work directly with clients, coordinate with municipalities and other reviewing agencies, and help move projects from initial concept through permitting and construction. Bax Engineering is an established, locally owned civil engineering and land surveying firm serving clients throughout Missouri and Illinois. Under new ownership, we are investing in our people, technology, and continued growth while expanding into new areas of engineering, including electrical utility infrastructure and substation civil/site design. What You'll Do As a Project Engineer / Project Manager in our Commercial Department, you will work on a variety of commercial, industrial, institutional, mixed-use, and other private development projects.
Responsibilities include:
Manage civil/site development projects from initial concept through permitting, final design, and construction. Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects. Prepare and oversee site layouts, grading plans, utility plans, stormwater management systems, erosion control plans, and related civil construction documents. Perform and review engineering calculations and technical analyses. Coordinate with clients, architects, developers, surveyors, contractors, utility companies, municipalities, and other reviewing agencies. Lead projects through zoning, planning, permitting, and agency approval processes. Attend and present projects at Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, City Council, and other public meetings when required. Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations. Review and coordinate the work of engineers, EITs, designers, and technical staff assigned to your projects. Conduct occasional site visits and provide engineering support during construction. Identify project issues early and work with clients and the project team to develop practical solutions. Mentor less-experienced staff and contribute to the continued growth of the Commercial Engineering team. What We're Looking For This is an experienced position. We are primarily looking for someone with a background in commercial site development or private land development who is prepared to manage projects with a high degree of independence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Approximately 5+ years of relevant civil engineering experience, preferably involving commercial or private land development. Experience preparing civil/site development plans. Working knowledge of grading, stormwater management, utilities, erosion control, and site development design. Experience coordinating projects with municipalities and other regulatory agencies. Ability to communicate professionally and confidently with clients, architects, contractors, public officials, and reviewing agencies. Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Missouri, or ability to obtain Missouri licensure through comity. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Experience independently managing commercial or private development projects. Familiarity with development and permitting requirements in St. Charles County and the greater St. Louis region. Experience presenting projects at Planning & Zoning or other public meetings. Experience mentoring or directing junior engineers and designers. Why Bax Engineering?
