Job Description

The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate for regional and global demand growth, decarbonization and energy transition targets. As the Civil and Structural Engineering Manager, you will work closely with regional and global civil engineering experts within Jacobs to support and/or lead ongoing projects as well as business development and proposal support with a variety of clients including renewable developers, transmission owner/developers as well as utilities. In addition to serving as a technical lead, this role includes formal line management responsibilities for a team of 5-15 engineers. The successful candidate will be responsible for employee development, performance management, resource planning, mentoring, recruitment, succession planning, and supporting career growth within the civil and structural team.
Responsibilities will include:
Duties for this position include but are not limited to: Provide both technical leadership and direct line management for engineers working on transmission and distribution projects, including coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, development planning, recruitment, onboarding, and training. Develop civil or structural engineering specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required. Provide technical support to the team on civil engineering and design. Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors. Perform and/or review technical calculations and verification of designs. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development discussions with direct reports. Support employee career progression through mentoring, training, and succession planning. Participate in workforce planning, resource allocation, and hiring activities to meet business needs. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment. Support compensation, promotion, performance improvement, and recognition processes in partnership with leadership and HR. Monitor team utilization, workload balancing, and professional development objectives. Coordinating with GIS and CAD professionals to prepare maps, drawings and other details. Preparation of technical drawings, calculations, and engineering reports. Work effectively with multi-disciplinary global project teams, clients, and other stakeholders. Contribute to proposal preparation and other business development activities through technical input and document preparation. Attending in-person, field, and on-line meetings with clients to provide project support and engineering guidance to advance design efforts. Contributing to a learning environment, support fellow engineers, with the opportunity to offer mentoring, be mentored and take advantage of career development opportunities. Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, environmental or related engineering discipline from a recognized institution. Minimum 8 years of engineering industry experience and a minimum of 5 years of direct experience with either site civil or structural engineering for commercial or industrial sites, and experience leading technical teams. Professional Engineer (PE) License Experience managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams in a consulting, utility, developer, or EPC environment. Ability and willingness to travel within North America.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
Experience with the civil or structural design of electrical substations or other energy related sites. Active/ongoing involvement in ASCE, ACI, or other similar industry organization.
