Job Description

Job Title:
Distribution Designer Job Description The Distribution Designer provides detailed design for overhead and underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV through 69kV. This role develops and reviews construction designs, maintains project schedules, monitors changes that affect scope and budget, identifies risks, and proposes opportunities to improve the design and construction of distribution projects. The position involves close collaboration with engineers and field teams to ensure safe, efficient, and standards-compliant distribution facilities. Responsibilities Design overhead and underground electric distribution facilities for systems ranging from 4kV through 69kV. Prepare design sketches, drawings, and detailed construction documents for distribution projects. Develop accurate cost estimates, bills of material, and all required documentation to support construction activities. Apply applicable standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry standards in the design of electric distribution facilities. Perform distribution system design calculations to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance. Prepare and oversee the preparation of construction design documents, including plans and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications. Communicate with engineering teams and other stakeholders to clarify system requirements and design intent. Identify Right of Way needs for proposed equipment and facilities and incorporate them into the design. Acquire field data as necessary and coordinate with field survey teams to support accurate and constructible designs. Monitor and maintain project schedules, reporting changes that affect timelines and budget. Identify risks that may affect schedule and costs and escalate or address them appropriately. Present opportunities to improve design approaches, construction methods, and overall project efficiency. Essential Skills At least five years of design experience using MicroStation or AutoCAD. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) tools, including AutoCAD, for drafting and design of distribution facilities. Strong drafting and design skills, with experience preparing detailed plans, profiles, and construction drawings. Ability to perform distribution system design calculations for overhead and underground facilities. Knowledge of standards, guidelines, specifications, and industry practices related to electric distribution design. Ability to prepare cost estimates, bills of material, and construction documentation with a high level of accuracy. Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design, or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, field personnel, and other stakeholders. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality design work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both overhead and underground electric distribution design. Experience in design and drafting for utility or infrastructure projects. Ability to interpret and apply client-specific standards and procedures in design work. Comfort acquiring and interpreting field data in coordination with survey teams. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple design tasks and maintain project schedules. Work Environment This role follows a hybrid work model, with on-site presence at the office two to three times per week in Thorp, Washington and the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the time. The position involves regular collaboration with team members as well as independent work, requiring comfort working both in a team environment and alone. The schedule offers flexibility to support project needs and work-life balance. Work is primarily office-based, using CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD, along with standard office and engineering tools. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Thorp, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
