Job Description

About the Role The Engineering Manager is responsible for building, leading, and continuously improving our engineering organization in a growing manufacturing company of industrial and bagging equipment. This role exists to ensure every customer project moves through a disciplined engineering process; resulting in accurate designs, complete documentation, effective communication, timely manufacturing releases, and successful customer acceptance. Success in this role isn't measured by how much engineering the manager personally performs, but by the department's ability to consistently deliver complete, well-coordinated projects with less reliance on executive oversight. Key Responsibilities Build and lead the engineering department, mentoring engineers and supporting their technical and professional growth. Ownership of the company's Equipment Design Process, ensuring it's followed on every project resulting in clean handoffs between other departments. Continuously improve engineering systems, tools, workflows and overall team performance. Keep project status, decisions, and risks visible to Sales, Production, Project Management, and executive leadership. Be accountable for the technical accuracy and completeness of every project leaving engineering. Lead product standardization initiatives that reduce engineering effort while improving quality, manufacturability and scalability. Identify and remove bottlenecks that slow down engineering throughput. Serve as a technical point of contact for customers on approval drawings and technical questions. Ensure manufacturing receives complete, accurate, on-time engineering packages. Direct and coordinate outside engineering contractors and resources. Review and approve engineering releases, drawing revisions, and custom application designs. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in custom industrial equipment design. 5+ years in mechanical or electrical design for custom/capital equipment, with 2+ years leading or mentoring an engineering team. Working knowledge of mechanical design (GA/layout drawings), controls architecture, and electrical design standards (NFPA 79, NEC); experience with packaging or bagging equipment is a strong plus. Must be highly process oriented. Demonstrated ability to run a department through process and delegation rather than personal output. Strong verbal and written communicator comfortable with customers, sales, and production required. What Success Looks Like Projects are delivered on-time, fully complete and with high quality. Engineering work is visible across the company, and project managers know status without asking. Customers experience smooth approval drawing cycles; manufacturing gets complete packages on time. Production rework due to engineering errors decreases, and standard products continue to expand. The engineering department is viewed as a trusted, self-sufficient leader within the company and can run autonomously.
