Job Description

Subsidiary SDI Biocarbon Solutions Overview Manage the environmental program for compliance with all Federal, State, and local rules, regulations, and permit conditions and active involvement as a remote member of the environmental sustainability and decarbonization team. Responsibilities (Text Only)
  • Lead, develop and execute all environmental program areas including air, water, waste, wastewater, spill prevention & cleanup, DOT, and EPCRA.
  • Interact with Federal, State and Local agencies, along with legislative bodies, trade groups, legal consultants, and other professional groups.
  • Prepare and obtain necessary environmental permits, working with consultants and agency personnel to secure appropriate permit conditions.
  • Duties include preparation of all required documentation and reporting forms such as air, EPCRA, water, waste, and wastewater. Documenting compliance with permit conditions through sampling, recordkeeping, and data retrieval.
  • Direct and/or assist fellow employees in completing daily environmental tasks.
  • Provide training as needed to meet various environmental requirements.
  • Work closely with Steel Dynamics Corporate Environmental Sustainability Team to support and lead sustainability initiatives
  • Monitor relevant sustainability focused initiatives for biomass, biocarbon, and the forestry sector.
  • Work in close partnership with Fiber Procurement Coordinator and assist as needed with site's PEFC Chain of Custody Certification.
  • Coordinate closely with safety and medical personnel to maintain a safe work environment Qualifications Required BS in in Environmental, Engineering, Metallurgy, Sustainability, or science related field and 2 years' steel or manufacturing experience.
Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to identify emerging issues, analyze potential impacts and translate ideas and insights into viable recommendations for action Experience in the environmental or sustainability field. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work and influence cross-functionally across the organization as well as with all SDI stakeholders Required characteristics: Willingness to work additional hours as required Effective written and verbal communication skills Strong analtical and proble-solving skills Self-starter, goal oriented, with a desire to learn and grow Preferred Demonstrated credentials in the sustainability or environmental profession.
